It's Microsoft screwing around with you. Windows won't recognize the WordPerfect format, although Word has a WordPerfect converter. In Explorer, right-click on the file you want openned, select "Open with" and select Word. If Word isn't in the list select "Choose program" and then scroll down on the list that appears until you find Word, then select it.

Looks like Timec has the solution. But anyways since I didn't read it you need to convert the files to MS Office documents, or atleast .rtf Rich Text Format.

Also bail on Word Perfect. Hit Bitorrent and bag yerself a copy of Office 2003. Unless yer still using hurtin old Windows 98, in which case Office 2003 won't work, maybe not even office XP, might have to go back to Office 2000. *shudders* :(

that's part of the problem ... got rid of old computer and also the wordperfect software ... so i have no way to open or convert them to open them ...

i may just have to bite the bullet and find a copy of word someplace to download or something ...

oh yeah ... running XP happily!

WordPerfect fan!

Buy WordPerfect - it is very powerful, relatively cheap, and the newer versions allow you to open, edit and exchange documents in many formats, including Word. It also has built in ability to create files in Adobe Portable Document format

WordPerfect still has a large core business in the legal market in the United States, so it is not likely to disappear soon. From what I have been reading, its market share is increasing again, after falling for many years.

I hate Word - WordPerfect gives me much more control!

I'd argue that OpenOffice is equally as powerful.

OO is free (both as in beer and as in speech).

The only format I've found OO can't work with is WP, and before today I didn't know that as I never needed it.

As does OO (well, recent editions, I'm running 1.1.3 and I can export to PDF).

Yeah I've heard that too, that's why I really hope that solid WP support appears in OO v2.0.

I'll still take OO Writer over either of the two (even if it is far from perfect). :p

Honestly though, these are word processors we're talking about, doesn't really matter which one you use, as they're all roughly the same (what possible *useful* killer features could a word processor have that will differentiate itself from the competition?)
