OnlyFans needs a picture?

I realize that I'm a little late to the party on this, but I finally got around to signing-up for an OnlyFans account and as I was about to set-up payment for an SP I wanted to subscribe to, the site then switched to a big 3rd party disclaimer about verification, I clicked "agree" and then I asked to pose for a picture...!?!?
I was taken aback, so I backspaced out of it and logged-off...
Is that legit?
I've been on "MyFreeCams" for years and had a "ManyVids" account too, set-up didn't require this photo step so I just wanted to confirm this wasn't a scam?
Does OnlyFans require you to upload a photo or did the site get hijacked by some scammers?
Perhaps I'm being paranoid... is it just a profile photo and can you wear a disguise? I saw a Reddit thread mentioning uploading a photo ID, but that may just be for people selling on the site, not just subscribing.
Am I misunderstanding something...?

I don’t recall being asked for a photo but I created my account with my SW client Twitter account. Super easy.

Or try a scan of the Aunt Jemima syrop bottle. Works for me. But Mrs Butterworth gets rejected a lot. Can’t imagine why—she’s pretty hot.

Tried again, thinking I might have missed something yesterday... even got to the page where the photo is taken and tried with a stuffed animal and the photo wouldn't take (holy facial-recognition algorithms Batman!)...???
I see so much "traffic" about OnlyFans, am I being unduly paranoid about giving them a selfie, when they have my CC info...??? Is this a new thing with OnlyFans or everyone just OK with the photo thing?
Any input would be appreciated... thanks.

I found only fans website confusing TBH. Are you sure you're signing up to be a fan and not to create an account and begin posting content? Try going to the SP's site via the name on her twitter etc... instead of via onlyfans.

I did that, but it still asked me to create an account... I could have logged-in via a Twitter account (don't have) or a Google Account (which I have tons of work-related & shared docs on... so, no)... or simply create one using an email address (I used my NSFW) and make-up a password. That worked fine, then when I had to add a credit card, it switched to this 3rd party verification site that weirded me out, asking me to open my camera and pose, etc. I don't recall seeing any question about being a "fan" vs a "creator" during the account creation process, but maybe I missed something...?

Honestly, I can't believe I hear so much about OnlyFans and nobody has raised this issue before?!... or did I do something wrong?

I think using the Twitter and Google options on the Onlyfans homepage is for girls (or guys I guess) to become a creator of content, like the SP you're trying to become a fan of. Does her website or twitter account have a link to her Onlyfans page? Some have a their own name attached and not a mention of Onlyfans until you follow the link. Try that.

My problem with only fans is that they won't take pre-paid cc's, and I don't want to use my regular CC for several reasons. However I've never heard of the problem either.

Like i said the website confused me. I tried to set up an account and realised that I was in the process of trying to become a creator. I thought you were having the same experience. I think it was a thread on TERB that made the suggestion that I gave above and I tried that. I guess I never got the stage you're at because I was trying to use the pre-paid. It is only since than that I learned why they won't take them and gave up I've been trying to find a way around that so doing lots of searching, but like you I can't find any mention of a similar experience to the one you're having, it's really weird, and I agree sketchy feeling with a third party site.

UPDATE: after a few helpful DMs, I tried again... this time I entered my address along with my CC details, then (miraculously) the "verify" button turned off and it processed my card just like other sites, without switching to the Big-Brother-Wants-Your-Photo page. I felt kinda stupid, but the address field had no " * " or "obligatory" indicator, so I assumed it was OK to leave it blank.
Lesson learned, thanks for all the helpful comments ?
