Obfuscated Pricing

What is up with the obfuscation of pricing on this board? Is there some reason you can't post numbers like $250 on this board, or is it just some local schtick?

The occasional post mentioning "4 greens and a brown" and such is the oddest way of pretending no money is involved that I've ever seen! This isn't the US -- you can't be arrested for mentioning dollars unless you're specifically negotiating a session or posting an ad (which needs to be done in private via phone/PM/??? for legal reasons -- doing it in public becomes solicitation.)

---------

In the thread where I first posted this, I got the response that Victoria LE had apparently provided the advice to a friend-of-a-friend type situation.

Does anyone know the "real" scoop here? Are we all dancing around trivia just because one district has LE that need some serious countersuits to remind them of their real duties to the citizens?

Squirrel, I agree on the color thing -- gotta give the board some "flavour". But I am really curious as to why we're letting Victoria try to dictate a unique set of laws that apply nowhere else in the nation. I know the island has a lot of old money, but I'm surprised the more cosmopolitan city on the other end of that ferry ride would not have more issue with whining retirees trying to dictate how the rest of us live.

We're still in Canada, right?

Prostitution is legal in Canada. Solicitation is not. If the SP or agency mentions specific services and prices, they may be charged with solicitation. If a client mentions a donation for an alleged session, it's absolutely useless as being anonymous, indirect word-of-mount (heresay) evidence.

Especially as no one here is using their real names for posting. Quotes from this site will be tossed from evidence at the start of your case if your lawyer is worth keeping. Heresay is not evidence. At it's very worst, LE might get enough circumstantial evidence from this site to justify spending more time on a real investigation.

I'm not a lawyer, but it sounds to me like either your agency friend got some paranoid advice, or Van's LE needs a few countersuits to remind them to chase those who are harming society, not those who are in the hobby by choice.

Surely LE has their hands full dealing with public street prostitution, mafia/triad/??? connections, the use of imported sex-slaves, underage girls, the use of drugs to hook and keep new slaves, etc. I just can't imagine them harassing a professional independant or agency whose primary concern is the safest possible entertainment for consenting participants.

OTOH, there are jackboots in every PD, and maybe Van's just needs a smack in the head to remind them they're here to protect citizens from the abusers and societal leeches, not to stop consenting adults from entertaining themselves.

(Yes, most of this post is copied verbatim from the original. Wish I could just "move" the relevant posts over. *g*)

FYI, the posters at the sister sites know and actually count on LE monitoring the board. We want LE to be aware of ops which are treating women as slaves, working with underage girls, getting the ladies involved with hard drugs, or otherwise abusing the SPs. We should want such despicable leeches to be yanked off the market as quickly as possible to protect the SPs who are being victimized.

In short, there is no reason we should tolerate the greed and abuse of organized crime in the industry. It's there, it's real, and we all know it, but that doesn't mean we should be accepting it.

The counterpart to that is LE should realize that the consenting hobbyist and SPs are not the "bad guys" here. The hobby may be a gray area, but overly vindictive LE operations will just make it that much harder to isolate and weed out the very real problems often associated with certain elements of the hobby.

Well, if that's the way of it I'll just avoid mentioning prices at all. I don't want to get anyone in trouble, especially the SPs who help me deal with the stress and frustrations of everyday life. *g*

Still, it really bothers me to know the formerly lovely island has been taken over by jackboot thugs in uniform.

Obfuscation is essentially hiding things in plain site.

It's painting the white car from last night's accident red, and leaving it parked on the street where anyone can see it.

It's coming up with keywords and phrases that are supposed to be meaningless to those who aren't "in" the group.

Most importantly, it means that you aren't really trying to stop someone from finding what you've hidden, just ensuring that it isn't officially public.

P.S. As to egghead, got a couple more years to go. The forehead is only about half way back so far, so I figure I've got 3-5 years before I go chrome. *g*

Offstage: stage whisper
"discombobulated"

Speaker: stops, turns, and glares off stage
What?

Offstage: curtains rustle, louder stage voice speaks up
It's "discombobulated", sir. You spelled it incorrectly.

Speaker: spluttering with outrage
Spelling again? Are you never going to drop that damned potato-potatoe thing? They've already chased me out of one country, are you trying to get me chased out of another?

There are a few reasons related to tradition and culture of the board. Back in the old ASP newsgroup days, it was thought to protect the SPs who travelled to the states. But there is really no reason to maintain it now on a Canadian based board. Except that it drives Americans nuts :D
