outside sports

Football was never ever meant to be played inside, it is too antiseptic. Baseball should also be played outside...astroturf or field turf is a blight upon sports. That is also my beef with the NFL - buncha nancy pants wimps - play the dam game outside in Green Bay!!

I find the Eskimos-Alouette match-up to be a nostiglic one as they have met 10 times before: 1954, 1955, 1956, 1974, 1975, 1977, 1978, 1979, 2002, and 2003. The Eskies winning seven with the Als winning in 74, 77 and 02.
That's amazing -- this is the all-time classic matchup.
So why are people complaining?

Edmonton fans and Montreal fans are going to invade our city...
I doubt there's many who made the trip from Montreal.

The CFL could use another team in the east. If the federal government wants to give out $27 million for a new stadium, why is it being put in Toronto, and not Halifax?

That overtime was the equivalent of a hockey shootout. Everyone was at the edge of their seats.

The Black Eyed Peas performance was good too. I so want to do that Fergie chick.

Sounds like it was a great game but I couldn't be bothered to watch it. At least the BC fans got an entertaining game even if their team wasn't in it.

The Grey Cup needs to be played outside in the elements....that's what makes it great. IMHO.
Yeah, yeah. People say that all the time, because they think it sounds good. But would you pay a lot of money for a ticket to attend a football game where you had to sit outside, at night, in late November in Canada, in the rain for 4 hours, particularly if it's not your home town team? And in most CFL stadiums many of the seats would be temporary benches in the end zones.

I've been to a Toronto Blue Jays night game when the roof was closed halfway through the game. I didn't even notice the roof had closed until I looked up. I'd prefer to see football and baseball played outdoors in daylight, but most games are played at night when it really doesn't make much difference whether or not they're in a dome.

And the newer type of artificial surface is better (and looks better) than the ugly old astroturf stuff. And isn't the grass in Edmonton's stadium turning brown by this time of year?

Skydome costly

Because the Skydome is becoming too expensive for the Argonauts. They want to follow the example set by the Alouettes by moving into a smaller stadium that has a fan-friendly atomosphere. The idea is for a 25,000 seat stadium, but I think they should go with 30,000.

With that said I think the government should be coughing up money for a stadium that's catering to a professional team, even a CFL team. Amatuer stadiums, yes but limit the money.

Probably because the Esks ended up in 3rd and the Als in 2nd in their respective divisions. There is more hype if one or both teams finished 1st. What many CFL fans do forget is many of the best Grey Cup games have been when one or both teams didn't end the regular season in 1st place. For instance, 1989 when the 3rd place Roughriders defeated the 1st place Tiger-Cats in what is considered the best Grey Cup game of all-time.

Watched the seahawks game instead.......... sorry canadian football is only good when there is no NFL game on. The players are bigger, faster and more skilled. Just an honest assessment.

Sounds like another ho hum Ground Game day Hope you had a good nap

Joe Jurevicius had 137 yards on eight receptions and caught two touchdown passes from Matt Hasselbeck for the Seahawks (9-2), who survived three potential game-winning field goal misses from the Giants' Jay Feely to run their winning streak to seven games.

Shaun Alexander rushed for 110 yards on 31 carries and recorded his 20th touchdown of the season to help Seattle remain unbeaten (6-0) at home this year.

The day after one of the most exciting Grey Cups ever TSN spent half an hour leading off their sports desk show with the signing of Blue Jay reliever BBBJ Ryan. Who says it isn't the Toronto Sports Network?

It's a 20,000 seat stadium being built for a professional team, but not the Argonauts, who backed out of the project when they were offered a much better deal to stay at SkyDome (now "Rogers Centre"). A soccer team owned by MLSE (who own the Leafs, Raptors, and Air Canada Centre) playing in the American MLS will be the ones using it. You would think they could pay for it themselves without government handouts, or also use SkyDome like the Argos.
