I bought my gf an iphone 8 last year, we're really happy with it.Constant technology updates are partially a factor of ever changing technology as is planned obsolescence. They want you to buy their product. I will probably buy the new iPhone when I replace this iPhone. I have reason in that my phone is pretty much vital to my work. There are several dozen apps on it I use frequently for work, all my 2FA stuff, Office for iOS, etc. I can justify the cost. It's the larger screen I like as it makes working on it easier. I'm of the opinion the iPhone ecosystem is far superior to the Android ecosystem (and more secure). I am interested in the new Apple TV. I have a Sony 4K 60 inch and with 4K HDR Apple TV it'll look and sound good.
I think a lot of people can justify the high cost because they simply don't own a computer anymore. I know quite a number of people who do everything on their smart phone now, even edit resumes. It would drive me crazy but it's the new world reality. I suspect in the future the smart phone WILL be the computer and will simply slide into a cradle which is attached to a monitor.
I have a 6s+ and am very happy with it. Easier on my old eyes. One day when I upgrade to a new phone I won't consider myself better than others. I'll just be happy to have an excellent piece of technology that is indispensable for my job. Not sure why this piece of technology has so much loaded language around it and draws out such heated responses. Like Storm Rider said it's just a phone. This makes me laugh.....every time a "new" I Phone is brought out all of the zombies buy it or get roped into 3 year contacts to get it cheaper.....it is a fucking cell phone though these days it is like a status symbol.....I have the newest I phone and therefore I am better than others that DONT....iit is no longer a cellphone it is a Status Symbol that is comparable to the class dot Caste System in Pakistan but more technically advanced.....and at the same time ALL of the zombies are doing nothing but making the estate of Steve Jobs that much more RICH.....and JUST for the sake of having IT.
First time I had an idiot blather about an I Phone and what it could do and what he could do with it was when at a car club breakfast he kept BLABBING about it......I resisted the temptation to ask to hold his I Phone and as the question "well does it fix itself with self sustaining nano technology?" and if he said " well no it cant do that" then smashing his fucking stupid I Phone into the table and then saying "yeah well your I Phone SUCKS"

There have always been frivolous status symbols be it a car, a handbag, or a cellphone. No one needs Ferraris or Chanel or the iPhone X. But I don't blame Apple etc. If someone was willing to make you rich buying stuff from you that they don't need, would you say no?This makes me laugh.....every time a "new" I Phone is brought out all of the zombies buy it or get roped into 3 year contacts to get it cheaper.....it is a fucking cell phone though these days it is like a status symbol.....I have the newest I phone and therefore I am better than others that DONT....iit is no longer a cellphone it is a Status Symbol that is comparable to the class dot Caste System in Pakistan but more technically advanced.....and at the same time ALL of the zombies are doing nothing but making the estate of Steve Jobs that much more RICH.....and JUST for the sake of having IT.

Myself, won't be buy the new X, I had a nokia phone years ago and it quit in 2015; haven't replaced it, and don't miss not having cellphone.
I can see a day where phones will do more and more tho.
