This is not what most people mean when they are talking about freedom of speech. Thats just being stupid. Freedom of speech would be my right to say that Pres. Bush is a liar or that the Conservative party is full of right wing idiots. In many countries in the world you would not dare to say something like that about a political party or your President.HankQuinlan said:Of course there are no limits on your freedom of speech. Why not test it? Next time you are at the airport, I recommend you make a joke about having a bomb. They will find it amusing and have a good laugh.
....or find a group of young men of a different ethnic group and try out some friendly racial epithets. They will certainly not mind, since this is free country.
When I think of free speech I certainly don't associate it with plagerism or copyright infringement. Sued for libel. Yeah if you believe in something strong enough then you should be able to say what you believe even if you get sued. (remember the reporter that was sued in the 50's or 60's for saying Liberace was gay. Liberace won but years later his house boy sued for spousal support and Liberace died of AIDS. I wonder if the reporter got his money back)
Sidewinder how about this for a quote:
"Goebbels was in favor of free speech for views he liked. So was Stalin. If you're in favor of free speech, then you're in favor of freedom of speech precisely for views you despise. Otherwise, you're not in favor of free speech." Noam Chomsky, Manufacturing Consent: Noam Chomsky and the Media (1992).
