Give me a break, you don't eat blubber in summer and the beavers are migrating

California Guy:

Most Canadians think a lot of the average US citizen and, regardless of what our Prime Minister was up to, would back you guys to the wall if it was asked for (as you would do for us I am sure).

What causes some of the sarcasm and cynical comment is the general lack of concern/knowledge of Canadians by most US citizens. For example, we have a show in Canada that features interviewing off the street US citizens in their cities and asking, straight faced, questions of people (and these include uni professors from Kentucky, policemen in Florida, bankers in Texas etc.):

1. Should Prime Minister Gretzky divorce his wife and marry the Queen?

2. Should Eskimos stop placing anyone over 60 on ice floes as part of the New Year tradition?

3. Do you think Edmonton should allow the first mall to be built in Canada?

4. Do you think Canada should give women the right to vote?

5. Should Ex-Prime Minister Lastman be executed for his role in the Leafs-Habs war of 1988?

6. Should Newfoundland be allowed to change its name to include the name of a popular dog breed? (first question that some laugh at - and ONLY legit question!).

etc.

The answers are hilarious and demonstrate that while we know most of your heros and key politicians, most US citizens wouldn't know a Louis Reil from a MacKenzie King or a King Clancy for that matter.

Good luck in your migration. Just pick up some Canadiana reading materials on your way.

P.S. Canada may be cold, but we don't have penguins. None, nada, zip. Then again, you knew that.....right?!

Just to add further Howie.

Michael Moore went to the White House and asked some college White House interns this "in Italy what language do they speak."

They all looked around at each other and said "Italian."

"Good" Michael replied

"In Rome what language do they speak" they all looked around at each other and said "Romanian" Sad but true.

These are the USA future Senators and Congressmen/women. Its not just the general lack of knowledge of Canada, but the general lack of knowledge on the world as a whole. It should also be added that alot of Americans are not to familar with events that happen in there own country. Part of my family is American there have been many discussions on this subject. --- Kev

Very funny Rick Mercer!

California guy, If you're not into clubbing, concerts, or gormet restaurants than Victoria is best for you. It has the same weather as Seattle, tons of wildlife, beautiful scenery, quaint shopping, laid-back attitude, mild traffic and all around wonderfulness. But make sure you pick a cute neighbourhood like Fairfield, Oak Bay, James bay or Cook Street Village. I used to live in Langford and by UVIC and it was not any of the above. As for the wind it is the wonderful thing that keeps the air fresh and cool, never humid or stuffy and is usually only 20-50 km/h tops, also makes for great sailing!

Think about it!
