Katlyn,

I sent you an email with the contact info of the guy that I use to unlock all my phones, he's great and has a fast response time. He is located downtown and will unlock the phone for you in person or send you the unlock code if you choose to pay via paypal.

I'm assuming you want to use this on the Fido/Microcell Network in which case calling them to ask them to unlock it for you is a bad idea. Blackberries are not one of their listed phones and it's never a good idea to let them know you aren't using one of their branded phones. They used to support B.E.S. through their blackberry connect plan, but no longer offer that plan to anyone, whether they are new or existing loyal fido customer. To my knowledge they won't unlock it for you, although I have never asked them personally myself.

Most cell phone providers will charge $200 or more to unlock your phone.

Best option to check if you are in Vancouver is to go onto Craigslist and type the word "unlock" in the electronics section. Most shops will do it for $20.00. I know there is a shop between Fraser and Knight street on Kinsgway that will do it. Some of the mall kiosks will do it at Metrotown as well but may charge you more.

unlock codes aren't the same within a phone model, the code is dependent on your iemi (a code that is specific to your individual phone) using someone else's unlock code is another bad idea as you only get 3 tries to input the correct code before your phone is permanently locked to your carrier, in which case you may have to end up calling your carrier to provide you with the PUK and you have a 33/33/33 chance of them either giving it to you, declining your request or them giving it to you for a very substantial fee as was mentioned in another post.

A client gave me the blackberry because my phone is from 2003 :)

I just want to look cool when I pull it out ;)

I only use phone and text so the keyboard is awesome, I don't need the internet.

You want an iPhone then. A Blackberry isn't cool any more. It's for business people and the iPhone has a cool keyboard. BTW, if you're Blackberry is from Telus or Bell (CDMA) and you want it to work on Rogers or Fido (GSM), it won't.

For unlocking the Blackberry, expect to pay $35 and up. For older phones, you can do an unlock for less than $20. Most of the time, the phones have to be unlocked using a data cable so sending you an unlock code by email won't work.

There are many reliable places around, especially in Richmond or head out the Main and Terminal Flea Market on weekends, there's one Chinese dude and his GF who've been unlocking for many years. His prices are really good and fair too.

Can anyone help me?

There are websites that charge $35. I don't mind paying I just don't want to get ripped off.

Good point...but c'mon, I'm upgrading from a phone that has an orange blacklight and displays in bitmaps

which btw I have to say is the ultimate cool, that damn thing does not die no matter how many times the battery goes flying and I've had oodles of really expensive phones that last 6 months being treated like newborn babies. I'm told Blackberries don't die so that is all I care about. It's a HUGE pain in the ass to have your phone die when you are expecting calls.

There is a phone kiosk outside of the Winners in Metrotown and they will unlock your phone for $20-$30. That is where I got my last two phones unlocked. I am not sure if they do Blackberry's but it is worth checking out

Ok then...it's just weird though. I dont expect a realtor to be driving a Yugo. lol.
I buy my clothes at Walmart too...seriously, I do this job so that I can pursue the schooling I want to pursue. I have been gifted the most amazing opportunity here and I love being the age I am and being able to just do what I want for the first time rather than being stuck in a career I hate. If I weren't in school then I would need another motivation for this job and it would probably be buying awesome stuff.

Like Gucci leather jackets, trips to the Mayan Riviera, iPhones, 72inch tvs, and of course a box of Purdy's and Godiva chocolates every single fucking day. Mmmmm....

Fido will be selling Black Berries after Feb 4th, you won't be able to use BES but supposedly you can BYOBB.

Apparently Fido will let you do tethering.
