ok perhaps i'm starting this thread because I am sick and am going a little stir crazy but this has been something that has been in the back of my mind and It has pushed it's way to the front.

I've been with a few sps this summer with very positive results. They have been very kind, skilled and attentive and I have thouroughly enjoyed the experiences. But with all of them there has been one thing that could have been better with all of them is the selection of the music.

Now, I am aware that it is their place and you kind of have to play by their rules. I have a policy that if it's my car it's my music, when it's their car their music. I can see the same rule applying here. I am also aware when you first meet an sp, there is no way for them to know what music you like so they will often pick sort of generic insrumental "romantic style music, like piano or jazz or something like that.

Now I believe that sex is an experience for the 5 senses and i believe that music plays into that but is of course not all of it. Now Ipersonally like music with more driving energetic beats (ie metal, electric blues, classic rock and alternative) but my taste is pretty diverse as i'm sure is the taste of all the fine sps in this city and mood on that particular day does influence musical preferences.

Now a couple of the ones I have been with have asked me about music and I told them to choose what they want basically because i don't want them fishing through cds for 15 minutes. But if they take clothing requests, shouldn't they take musical request too? i believe that the right music at the right time with the right person can really enhance the experience and take it to another level.

I guess my questions are these
1. How important is music during a session
2. Who gets the say in the music played?
3. What have people found to be the best music?

I open it up to the mob......

It depends. I have a "safe" list that I play for people I am not sure about ( ie: older, cranky types and what not ) Which does have a mix of Jazz, techno, instrumental etc... Martin, Medeski and Wood, Dave Brubeck, The Chemical Brothers, The Beastie Boys. What I use the most is The Lost Highway Soundtrack and Tricky's Angels With Dirty Faces.

Now, for the "cool" people, I have more classic rock thrown in there. Jeff Beck, Robin Trower, Some Nine Inch Nails, Led Zeppelin, Leonard Cohen and Tricky. Plus whatever I mentioned at the top...

I ignore suggestions or someone bringing their own shit. I have enough of any type of music to please anybody's tastes.

Ideally, I like Industrial. SPOOKY...

i do think music is important. i saw this awsome girl who asked me what i wanted to listen too. and i told her i liked hip hop and RnB, which she liked as well. it set the mood so well, we both started dancing with each other (and that a major turn on for me, a girl that can dance)

another time i was with a girl, just hanging out watching tv, and we began doing "naughty" things. it just so happened the tv was on much music and they were doing a profile on justin timberlake. i must say that i was a justin fan after that.

I've had a few SP's the said music was everything to them. And when I said that I never understoud music it was like I was from another planet and they felt sorry for me.
I often have to ask the girl to turn down the sound otherwise the words of some songs start repeating in my head and I lose concentration and erection.

NIN is fantastic music, a AA pick for sure. The Beasties are great but not for luving at leat IMO. As I wa out getting medicine Sade came on the radio and that's probably the best IMO. but anything with a beat is good just not gangsta rap. Ludacris and 50 cent aren't exactly the most sensual sounding artists in the world.

OMG. Shedevil mentioned NIN and Robin Trower in the same sentence. I think I'm in love.

Not too far
I actually made 2 compilation cd's specifically for that purpose and I gave them to some of the girls I've seen. Generally any soft music I believe is appropriate before the session starts and it could build up slowly during the session.

I 've put a lot of thought on how to choose the music and here are the general rules I follow:

- On the songs there should be no voice, or as little voice as possible. A sexy voice for me may not be as sexy for you and viceversa. Ambiental ethno music would fit the bill here. Afro or oriental is good. Buddha Bar CD's are a good source for this kind of music.
- If there is a human voice there should be no words or as few as possible. The words and lyrics may be distracting and what I may like or find inspiring it may not work someone else.
- Music with many rythm changes is not good. You are not attending a rock concert, you want let your mind and bodies follow each other's beat and not get entrained by the music.
- A steady and penetrating rythm given by percussion instruments builds up tonus and helps energizing the session. Soft techno is good for that - remember the music from the club scene from Basic Instinct ? If you like classical music a march like Ravel's Bolero can do the job.

Classical may be good for people who like it the same as jazz as long as there are no sudden rythm changes. I personally like the classical music only during a massage session.

You guys seriously get distracted by voices/signing with music?

A.D.D. much?:p :p
LOL I'm kidding, guess I'm just surprised it could be distracting over sex  That's pretty funny. The only thing that can distract me is if the damn CD starts to skip! And even then, I think it still takes me a while to even realize it, let alone react. :D

But I agree, music does set the mood.. although I think that once things get going, it becomes secondary. :)

Thing is, it's not easy trying to please someone or at least find something they can enjoy, when you have no idea what they like.

Thievery Corporation albums are my safe choice. Some times Jack Johnson. Lately, depending on the gentleman visiting me, the new Norah Jones, Erykha Badu or Blonde Redhead CD seem to be great for mellow moods. Sade also.
I never get tired of Miguel Migs for something a little more upbeat. And my recent addition, Scissor Sisters. Ah.. cracks me up. Dancy
and kinda catchy tunes. But definitely not for those of you who get distracted easily... the lyrics are hilarious, a little weird and a lot twisted.. I love it! SO damn funny.. :D

I like my rap too, especially gangster rap ( I like it angry, goddammit!). I never really use it though... Just Cypress Hill's "Lock Down".

The Beastie Boys tunes I use are all the instrumental Jazz experimental stuff they did on "Ill Communication". I LOVE that fucking album. Those sweet beats and sexy rhythms... Oh my!

OMG. Shedevil mentioned NIN and Robin Trower in the same sentence. I think I'm in love.

There's something about that bitchin' guitar solo in "Too Rolling Stoned", I get VERY excited.

I also use NIN's "Sunspots", "La Mer", "The Frail" and "Closer/ Deviation remix". I was going to add "You're too (Physical)" from Broken and "The
Only Time " from Pretty Hate Machine. Let's not forget "Suck".

ATF NIN album to fuck to: The Downward Spiral. I need to replace that one again, copy number 4. I also like KMFDM , the first one. Megalomaniac and Anarchy are fabulous!

Oh yeah, Sade sucks. I have no use for that shit.

Usually I ignore it, classic rock is always good but Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon seems to always make it go better. Only seen 1 sp that played it. Now loud enough to be distracting but enough so at the times you notice, it is there.

gotta add:

portishead, moloko, feist and moby...marvin gaye, barry white, frank marino, jose nunez and the ying yang twins...talk about ecclectic...haha...

having said that, when i am talking with a client for the first time, i always ask what their musical preferences are...to me its like asking what your favourite position is...if used properly music will make great session fantastic...

as for getting distracted bi the lyrics...definitely...i get that way too sometimes and i have to say, there is nothing worse than being on the verge of an orgasm and finding yourself singing along with a song - even if its only in your head...:)

Since then, I`ve had great sessions with selected songs by Achillea (side project of Jens Gad from Enigma Amadas Estrellas), Code Indigo, Feist, Melissa Etheridge, and the Rolling Stones.
See these reviews where I decided to highlight the music I brought

I enjoy making discs for this almost as much as using them in a session.
It helps if the SP is willing to say what she likes.
