I was sure a new thread had started for Movies 2023 but searching only found a July 2022 post as the last on the 2022 list. Apologies if this has already been started.
Anyway, my fwb with the incredible mammaries and I caught a matinee at Tinsel Town before a planned later afternoon and evening fun time. Our movie choice maybe was not the best to set up the later in the day interlude but I have to honestly say it has been a LONG time since I saw a movie with the impact of this one.
The Whale
No special effects other than the makeup/costume, no violence, no guns, very minimal cast but wow, talk about performances.
Brendan Fraser really does do the performance of his lifetime in this one. If he doesn't win, well ... he should win an oscar for this.
Hong Chau supports and is outstanding, so supporting role oscar there.
Its shot in 4:3 which sets the dark tone of the topic and reflects the life in this grotty apartment, maybe the life this guy lives.
It hits on a lot of topics of beliefs, on grief, loss. I felt it just HITS.
As I noted this is not the movie to preclude a hot date where you are getting jiggy, and in fact Ms Magnificent Breasts and I opted to having a quiet evening, but if I think back of movies that HIT ME in the past maybe the only other film that left me unable to speak for quite awhile after, was the mid 80's flick about Steve Biko and the injustice of Apartheid in South Africa.
