My opinion is that a gentleman would have responded to the situation by first assuring the "freaked" out girl not to worry.
By offering without any hesitation to go to the pharmacy, buy the pills and return them to the SP.
Or, if he truly had no money beyond the $20 and no credit card at all (hard to imagine), by an explanation to her of that, and still offering to go to the pharmacy with his $20 and $20 from her.
Maybe gallantry and chivalry are dead. I'm old school.

It shouldn't be hard to imagine him having no credit card. I normally go pooning without a wallet, isn't that a recommended practice.
