Do you really think the U.S. is going to help Candian firms? The only firms that will get even a trickle will be the ones that are subsidiary companies of U.S., with the profits going to pay off American's huge debt, another byproduct of your great NAFTA.
So basically employing the entire province of Ontario is "a trickle" ?

Without NAFTA Ontario would be poorer than newfoundland ever was at this point.

And guess who they would claw money from to give to them? Yep, BC and Alberta.

Hi Shakerod. Its not about the US "helping" Canadian firms. Its about Canadian firms having the ability to compete and win US contracts. There is not all that much patriotism in actual business transactions. Hence the amazing success of China in producing goods and India in providing services. If Canadian firms can provide better product/service at a better price than American firms, then they will win contracts.

Actually, I wonder about the accuracy of that number, and what that number means. 95% may relapse per attempt at abstaining, so you could see the program as a failure. But what about those that get back on the wagon and try again?
then they relapse again.. and many keep trying.

Often it takes many attempts for an addict to learn why they relapse and to adjust their thinking so that eventually they don't relapse. This process can take years.

When the addict is in recovery, however short, they are able to regain health, and they are less likely to be involved in criminal activities. There is a reduction in the harm that they do to themselves and to society for the time they abstain. It could be weeks months or years that the addict who stole to fund his drug habit is off the streets and working on building a life. How much is that worth??

My point was that not all government overspending is Vanoc's fault.

Also, people complain and argue that instead of spending money on the Olympics to reward those who work really hard and rise to an athletic level that can make others proud to be Canadian, we should be spending money on people who make little or no effort to do anything for themselves.

Given the choice between spending money on something like the Olympic and Paralympic Games or needle distribution programs for drug addicts, I'd spend it on the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

I'm not a bleeding heart by any stretch, but that 'group' you refer is comprised of more than just drug addicts. There are too many idiots in this city (councillors included) that look at homeless and naively ask 'Why don't they just get a job?', instead of viewing it as a systemic problem.
