Money is not evil, a small portion of the population is so greedy, all they seem to care about is money, that is true. But the average person only really cares about having enough money to lead a good lifestyle. Sure they want a home, car, food, entertainment, some toys, but they really don't worry about becoming multi billionaires.
As for money as we think of it, as in paper bills, loonies, toonies, that itself might go away someday, but not in my lifetime. I still don't leave the house without at least a few hundred dollars cash in my pocket. My visa card may not work at the gas station or store, but cash sure does.
If anything is truly a problem with regular people like most of us, it is the debt load some carry. Living beyond ones means, that's a problem. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbors boat and truck. The neighbor likely doesn't even own that fancy boat and truck, the banks do. Anything goes wrong in his life, and the repo man shows up and takes it. Save up, buy the boat and truck you can afford to pay for.
My boat and truck aren't fancy, but they are at least mine, and all I need.
My house doesn't have gold taps, marble countertops, or Italian tile flooring. But its comfortable, the roof doesn't leak, no mold, furnace keeps me toasty warm in winter, and that is what is important, and I own it, not some bank.
I was my own GC on my house build, hired trades people to do most of the work, wrote them cheques, or paid them cash. But I also poured my own sweat into this home I live in. It's not fancy, I don't require fancy things to be happy.
If you cannot afford to buy it, don't. Keep saving up till you can afford something, then feel happy when you do buy it. My boat, it was a repo. Like new, and makes me happy. The doofus who originally drove it a little bit didn't own it, the TD bank did, he couldn't make his payments, they took it away. I bought it at an auction for half of new cost, and I doubt it had 10 hours use.
A mortgage I can understand that. Otherwise some will not be able to buy a house till they are 45, instead of 20. But just buy the house you really need, not over the top fancy to impress your friends.
