I just had a peek at the Perbatory section, quite an eye opener. I see several references to bans because of “Necro posting” What is that? I can’t see any reference to the term in the rules so I’m assuming its a new term for an old Issue?

Thanks mods.

Its a good point and I think one that all of us at one time or another learned, either from seeing folks getting put into perb jail or being in there oneself.
Necro Violation is for pulling up a post where the last reply was more than 6 months ago. Might be a bit of slack on that exact time frame, but there have been some that have pulled up posts from 2015 and asked has anyone seen this gal?
Those not only get a lot of laughs but a pretty good kick in the ghoulies from the Mod Squad!!

Pretty much what he said, if it’s a couple of days we’ll cut you some slack, if you pull up a 20 year old thread about a long retired SP no slack whatsoever.

The rule is, 6 months from the last post in the thread means it's off limits. You can start a new thread and link to the old one. Yes, we are fairly flexible about a day or a week or so either way, but last week, we had a handful from the very earliest years of the board and guys asking if the lady is still around, which is unreal. This morning, it was a fellow who bumped every single thread about a particular provider, all over 2 years old, and it was incredibly creepy/stalker like.

What happened to the plan of automatically locking threads once it gets old?
Pretty sure there is no auto locking script running here but do you really think that is something that is feasible in a manually moderated forum?

It has not been addressed yet by the tech team unfortunately. There are other forums that use software that allows it, just came across one that's been mentioned here before for US info, eccie.net, it will block the posting and issue a warning used an automated system, and their limit is actually only 3 months, not 6!

There were discussions earlier (maybe couple of years ago) that something like that would be implemented here. Unfortunately as forum mod mentioned above that the tech team hasn't addressed it yet but it is possible to have a feature like that.

Software supported auto moderation is definitely possible on a manually moderated forum. Software is assisting human mods in moderating simple repetitive mistakes which gives the actual human mods more time to moderate other stuff that would actually require a human opinion/input.
