While it's dangerous to kids, it can also infect adults and have serious consequences. If you had one MMR vaccine as a kid, consider getting a booster as an adult. Most younger people did get the two shot vaccines so will have much better immunity.

MMR = Measles, Mumps, Rubella

Get a tetanus shot while you're at it.

While it's definitely not fun to catch a cold, flu, Covid, Norovirus, or an STI, many of the childhood diseases that are making a resurgence are dangerous to adults in different ways.

For example, a measles infection can cause what is called "immunity amnesia" -- basically, your body loses its ability to remember how to fight other infections. Info here: https://asm.org/articles/2019/may/measles-and-immune-amnesia

And if you're getting older (50's), definitely consider getting the Shingles vaccine. While it is not contagious, it can leave you with debilitating life-long pain if you experience an outbreak (it's related to chickenpox).

The two things modern medicine discovered that have saved more lives than anything else are hygiene and vaccines.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. They are not entitled to their own facts. Vaccines work and anti-vaxxers will not be allowed to spread disinformation and conspiracy bullshit on PERB. Plenty of room in the Perbatory thread for those who want to give it a try. I am well past 50 and have seen friends get shingles, hearing even one story of the pain and discomfort should be enough for anyone my age to get that vaccine.

Maybe not the most popular chemistry today, but DDT did save millions of children from Malaria and Typhus.

I had it when I was young, and it was awful. I had a friend who nearly died as a result of it.

Measles was all but eradicated in this country 20 years ago, and could still be, but parents who never saw the effects with their own eyes decided they knew better than the science and here we are. This Anti Vax shit makes my skin crawl.

Was originally looking what a DDT vaccine was for; as everything was going towards vaccine.

DDT is an insecticide. I think the ideal was to kill the bugs who transferred Malaria and typhus. DDT is not used today because environmental effects and suspected Carcinogen.
DPT was/is a vaccine for diphtheria, whooping cough and tetanus.
Malaria is more of a tropical disease. https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/malaria/prevention-malaria.html

He was referring to DDT, as it did save millions of children regardless of its environmental effects and health effects.

Yes, I know very well that DDT is an insecticide. We still have some preserved in a glass 1 gallon jug, a gallon jug, not 4L. And it did a damn fine job on Canadian mosquitoes too.

I once had access to 99% fuming nitric acid.
That shit could take out any insect in seconds, along with elephants.. lol
It can be used to make explosives.
I used it for reverse engineering work back in the day.

Great for opening up integrated circuits.
