Masks....how many did you use ?

Lots of noise about pandemic related litter, in particular those pale blue masks.

How many did you use during the pandemic and did you dispose of them properly ?

I bought two washable masks....used one of them twice washed it and haven't worn either since. Just carried them with me in case I needed them.

The blue masks, I used six since the day they became mandatory.....

1...the ear loop broke...it went in the garbage.
2...I wore as needed for about six months til I finally trashed it.
3...I wore til I got my first shot, and they replaced it. They gave everybody a new mask when you got there. Probably because of people like me.
4...I wore for a couple weeks til I dropped it. Also went in the garbage.
5...I wore til I got my second shot. Same scenario as shot one.
6...I'm still wearing as needed til, I guess Thursday or Friday when it appears masks will be a matter of choice.

I wear a disposal one each time I have to travel and transit to work. I get to work I swap it with a reusable and when I leave I swap back to the one I wore earlier. When I get home I throw my disposal mask in a bag of used masks and throw my reusable in the wash. I never reuse a disposal after the day is done

I've gone through boxes of the blue/white disposables. Change out every couple days. No cloth ones here. I put them in the garbage. Don't judge me. Any virus on them would be dead in a few days and with garbage pickup every two weeks and the garbage in a plastic bag and then a big green bag, I figure I'm not causing anyone any harm.

Used a gater for a while, double-folded, until it got too warm to wear.

Then switched to a cloth one I thought was useless, and dumped for Korean-made, washable ones. Still on the ten-pack I bought last year.

Sometimes wear the disposable blue/white pieces of crap if I forget my regular one. The ear loops on those seem to break all the time.

Had a cloth one with a filter insert for 2 months. Then I bought a box of lvl 3 astm surgical masks and never used the cloth mask again.

The surgical masks were a god send - so light, so breathable, fit so well, rated @ 98% too. Locally made too, at Novo textiles. Using 7 in a rotation.

I hardly had them on. Never outside. Inside if at store (not starting tomorrow!!!) requiring it, when going to a restaurant as entering, leaving or using the bathroom, at gym when arriving and leaving. That was about it. So glad BC has dropped the mandatory indoor thing starting tomorrow. I am going to have it with me for a week or so and see how it goes.If I find I never have to put the bloody thing on I won't bother having one with me

I wouldn't assume stores and such will stop requiring. I suspect the govt has simply abdicated a role in this. I imagine there will be a mix of businesses choosing to make pple wear masks or not. I can't imagine the business i work for which is a huge corp and has techs going into pple's businesses and houses, is going to say ok, let's drop the buffs!

You know, the whole issue of those who are anti mask brings up a brilliant anecdote I read just recently.

A guy wearing a mask gets on an elevator with a bunch of maskless guys. These guys start ribbing him about wearing a mask, saying things like irrational fear etc. You know, all the cookie cutter things anti mask, vax etc people come up with. So the guy takes off his mask and says, awesome, finally a bunch of guys who don't mind me not wearing a mask. Even though I tested positive the other day. Thanks guys!

I had 3 reusable ones I rotated. I was given a few of those blue and white ones at different times. My reusable ones are down to 2 after one was lost. Completely stretched out and really lots of mileage on them. I'm due for new ones but wondering if it's worth it if they are no longer mandatory soon.


Thing is, we're not actually done with covid entirely after both doses of the vaccine. Covid will continue to mutate and new strains will continue to infect and transmit.


So even if the mask eventually becomes no longer mandatory, I have a feeling that many people will still opt for wearing it.


Not to mention covid pandemic is just the start. The new normal is more pandémics. Too many people on the planet, too much disgusting animal agriculture practices.. This is just a taste of what is to come.
