I dunno, Uncle. A gay-curious late-20's male friend of mine recently visited a Davie Street gay bar and he was hit-on immediately, by a variety of potential one-night suitors, of all ages. He ended up leaving after a couple of drinks, because the pressure was actually a little too intense for him, being just curious and all.

What's your experience at gay bars? ;)
Yup, that's the way it is in a gay bar.
Gays are not shy about saying "hey I'm horny and I want to fuck you"

Even to obviously straight (mostly) ancient old men who just want to have a drink with their gay friend.

Well, so he was treated no differently then a late 20's single girl walking into a straight bar......My experience in gay bars, used to manage the Dufferin Hotel...was part of the Fresgo's operation on Davie in it's heyday....still drop in at the Pumpjack and other pubs for a beer when I'm in the area.......:D

Gay men have the right to run bawdy houses : gay saunas but straight men cannot
Eagle99, you are simply not getting the answers people are trying to give you. The reason Gay men have the ability to operate a brothel is because a raid on said brothel would result in a backlash from the gay community that no politician wants to risk. Our community does not do the same when a micro or escort service gets raided.

Maybe you should switch sides, seeing as Gay men have more rights than you think you do. But before you break out your rainbow underwear, let me caution you; the reason most men are straight is because no other man will fuck them.

Well you know that in straight world it's very complicated to fuck a woman for free.A gay person get get laid anytime, just show up at the gay bar and pick any person without all this dating drama and fuck the same night for free. This is not realistic in straight world to go a to a straight bar and ask a woman to have a fuck right away, so the fastest way is to pay, but gay people don't need to pay because they are more direct.
And even with all this dating process it isn't free , you have to pay for drinks, dinners, gifts ...
when have "gay" relationships ever been drama free....? i have lots of LGTB friends and i can tell you if you think its NSA and drama free, you are dreaming my friend....

:) The sex is drama free - - - as long as you aren't living with the other person. Two self-absorbed people living together and thinking that they can bring their pickup for the night home - - - that's not drama free. Neither is operating a business drama free if both think that they are the "artistic director"

Swingers clubs don't allow single men.
I really don't understand what your point is in all of your posts. If you want to participate in straight, unpaid, casual sex with no strings attached -- work on being very, very charming. You could also concentrate on being very good-looking (less necessary than charm, but it doesn't hurt). These qualities, I'm pretty sure, would also be useful if you were gay.

Are you really just whining that men have to work harder for "free" sex than women or gay men? Are you just whining that most women aren't as interested in casual sex than men? Get used to it!

OK. So Mackay wants to punish these unattractive non charming men or the ones who are socially shy and have no luck on getting straight, unpaid, casual sex .
Pretty much. That is a side-effect of anti-prostitution laws anywhere. They are basically bent on punishing anyone who strays from a society's anti-sex moral code. They are a message to citizens, even if they are not enforceable. Your protests still have no logic or point.

Eagle89, I think you have crossed into TROLL territory. You are simply restating your asinine position without actually responding to other posts. I'm actually embarrassed that I took this long too catch on.

Welcome to my "killfile" trollie

And why consenting paid sex is against morals ? Is it just because it offends the society ?In that case the canadian government shouldn't criticize countries that jail gays because gay sex there offends their society morals and do exactly the same thing as these countries with prostitution laws. That would be called hypocrisy and double standard.
This what I meant in my first post by being consistent with your morals.
It sounds like you are getting all mad? This is a board full of pooners. We all agree that there is nothing immoral with our hobbie.

There is however a spectrum on how much control government should have. I think the Holland model is the way to go. But most SPs hate that idea.

I don't like Holland model with public brothels display in the main street. I would prefer to have them in industrial area with zoning restrictions.
Why not. I live downtown. I don't want to have to drive to annacis island for a session.

I haven't read through this thread, so if this topic has already been addressed, please lead me to the post.

What happens to organized crime and the women they 'handle' if the Nordic model is introduced, or if the industry becomes totally decriminalized?

What do gangs (HA, Asian, Russian, etc.) want to see happen in Canada?

From which situation would they benefit the most?

I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for them to weigh in with their opinion

Anywhere that something is illegal, there is someone who gets a commission for directing customers to the place that provides that illegal thing. Ask yourself why what costs $300 here costs $1000 or more in New York City. Here, legal - - - There, illegal and I'm willing to bet that the woman that is "handled" doesn't see more money because the price is higher. What it does do is to force women to accept a "handler" because the independents will have attacks from all directions.

Good point, but we can speculate ...

So organized crime would be lobbying to have it criminalized, not de-criminalized.

I wonder how strong their voice is with our government through their associates? Well funded too I would imagine.
Of course every "boss" dreams of prohibition being imposed again. Oh to be a Bronfman or Kennedy and make so much money that you are respectable.

Organized derive profits if illegal drugs remain illegal. One can assume they are also set up should marijuana became legalized too.

My bet is they would not be happy if a Nordic Model were in place unless they offered protection from Police to the Johns.

Ambiguous response I realized there are many ways of looking at this issue.

you notice it didn't take very long for the laws to change regarding medical marijuana being grown by the users, did it?

does anybody else see anything sinister about that about-face?

you bet organized has got LOTS to say about many matters that directly affect their business... and the government listens carefully, or else :fear:

In this country the Parliament creates laws. But enforcement is up to municipalities. Hence the consequences - the City of Vancouver and VPD will not enforce the law. Funny - I was very surprised that even very few high end SPs understand the current state of law. I had to educated a number of them. At the end of the day there is always a difference between purchasing sexual services and donating some cash to someone's favourite charity because you just feel so. For those people who does not understand this difference - get educated in simple legal matters. It is not that complex. Nothing prevents now for the law enforcement to set up a trap and charge with communication or being in a common bawdy house. But then you can challenge it because of entrapment etc... Meanwhile - any draconian legislation will give a nice market to gangsters. Just imaging what will happen if they decide to close Platinum Club, Fox Den etc - a whole bunch of gangsters in this city would say - Yes, thank you, you just created for us the new market. Police is already corrupted and overstretched fighting the war on drugs.
