Liberals won - Christy Clark didn't.

Oh the irony she lost her seat in Vancouver Point Grey to David Eby by about 2%.

Sure there will most likely be a recount but the Vancouver Pt Grey people chose an intelligent well informed candidate in Eby.

For the record, I bought a $5 Liberal membership fee a long time ago. Specifically so I could vote against Christy Clark as leader of the Liberal Party. That has been my only involvement with a party ever.

Im curious what happens now, from what I heard someone will step down and let her into their riding? I can't see how that should be allowed, people from her own community have no interest in seeing her lead, then why should she be allowed to continue leading the party?

Sounds abusable. I wonder why no parties hire good looking charismatic people who are ethnically appropriate for their riding to run for the seat, and then just replace them once they have won.

the replacement candidate doesn't just step in

a by-election is declared and the replacement has to win the by-election. so there are costs involved

if they're THAT bad, they'll lose the by-election as well

the person who is chosen to step down will come from an air-tight liberal riding

Ok that's exactly what I had assumed was supposed to happen, the media I was listening to did not make that clear.

Point Grey is not her community. It was Gordon Campbell's. When Gordon stepped down a couple of years ago Christy wasn't a MLA so she had to run in his riding in a by-election to become Premier. Her community was already represented by a strong Liberal candidate so she stayed within the riding that she was last elected. She wasn't expected to beat Eby as he is a strong NDP candidate. Believe it or not she actually did a lot better than was expected.

Like it or not she is the leader of the party and someone will be asked to step down in order for her to get a seat.

To the ladies on this thread it appears to me that you are disappointed in the Liberal win.

This should be GOOD news to you as IMHO your businesses will improve.

My phone has been ringing off the hook this morning with associates and clients that are absolutely elated with the Liberal win.

They have been planning for months on how to survive a NDP win and some were even foregoing new projects and new businesses.

All that seems to have changed now based on my phone conversations.

Many of them described the last few months as being in a depression over the thought of a potential NDP win.

First thing I did to celebrate today was to go see my favourite SP.

I think there are many others doing the same.

And as to Christy not winning Point Grey I suspect the fact a lot of UBC students and professors live in the riding has something to do with it.

Ahh but you left out an important detail which is the person who gives up their seat for said by-election
will be given a gravy train patronage appointment into a job that will most likely be of a longer term than
keeping the seat in the legislature.A small but important detail.

I still cant believe the libs won,having said that IMHO British Columbians dodged a huge bullet as the NDP
would have run the province into the ground had they won.

I believe that are a lot of students and professors that live in the Point Grey area and would be entitled to vote there. Also University students will tend to vote and vote left. It takes them a few years after they graduate and start to pay taxes till they realize the errors of their ways in voting for the left.

Professors IMHO tend to be left leaning.

This is the only reason I could come up with to explain why Point Grey, with their expensive mansions, always has a strong leftist voting pattern. Even Gordo did not win easily.

Well, I will be out that way tomorrow so I am interested in seeing if there will be (or still is) political signs on the campus.

I'm sorry but the former Defacto Premier paid bribes to secure the Liberal Party leadership by way of creating Ministerial Secretary positions with large Salaries and appointing the Senior Liberal Caucus Members who held their noses and gave Ms. Clark their support.

This is the biggest problem I have. When an elected premier resigns during term it is the Governing Party that solely decides the New Premier, not the Electorate. That is fundamentally wrong and must be changed so that it is solely the Electorate who has the right to decide.
