Ive noticed this and have been. It was used as a hiway car most of its life so it’s a happy little diesel engine. I’m surprised how much jam it has, I kicked a Nissans ass! :p What’s the best fuel conditioner? I have some but it’s my first diesel...
I've always liked Howe's. My ex bought some, ( can't remember the brand ) and when I came home once at -35 she pulled it out of the trunk to show me and it was gelled solid, it got filed in the trash. In kamloops you may not need it but some emergency melt down is a handy thing to have in the trunk too, in case you start to gel up in the winter.

It is seriously FUCKED that during WW2 the Germans built tanks such as the Tiger/King Tiger that would drive 1 MILLION miles.....and today Volkswagen sells products with built in failures...such as a shitty rubber timing belt BUILT to FAIL.....get that timing belt replaced of the engine just plain fucking dies due to it being an interfereance engine with a planned design flaw.Needless to say I will never own a POS VW again.

SR
If I was up to building my own, I would get a 4 cyl. Cummins and stuff it into what ever smaller 4X4 body turned my crank at the moment. Nice engine, exactly the same as the big six just minus 2 holes.

A lot of engines will fail if the timing belt or chain slips. All depends on clearances between piston and valves.

I prefer high horsepower rides...:biggrin1: anything under 400hp kinda puts me to sleep. There was a time when my "fast car" was 750hp and my "slow car" was only 550hp ;)

Current ride is only about 420hp...it's just not enough. Horsepoweritis is a sickness. Once you've had it, it's hard to go back.
A mans quest for power in a car is proportional to the amount of testosterone in his system. Not that there is anything wrong with that BUT.. What makes more sense to me is horsepower to weight ratio. ie my collector car. It is almost 60 yrs old, naturally aspirated 2.2L 4 cyl. with 125HP and 1600 Lb/in torque. But the secret is the cars weight at 1600 lbs. 0-60 in under 5sec. top speed 125MPH. (Not that I ever been there.)

Speed costs....how fast do you want to go?

My '78 lil Red Express Truck had somewhere between 6-700 horse guessing by 1/4 mile ET's. My ZO6 vette 405 advertised. Vettes faster simply because of weight and aerodynamics. Truck was more fun tho.

Howes in the summer, 411 in the red bottle for winter , small bottles of methyl hydrate for emergencies never add more than half a cup. Don’t buy cheap diesel fuel, it’ll pay in the long run.

thanks... I will be all over the province and Alberta this winter so I best get it tip top. Lucas is the one I picked out a few days ago so I will run that through for now. Kinda miss my truck though...not as much when I’m driving right past the gas stations....which leads to the next question...s

Correction the brand is 911 not 411, stupid auto correct. I was referring to quality of fuel not the price, stick to the major brands like husky or petro can.

I only diesel up with Chevron....and I think I use Howes additive in the winter time. I buy it at Lordco.
It's the second one in the pic. And it will extend injector life, start and run better, and you may get better mileage.
My truck is chipped for hauling ,so it runs hotter than it should when hauling horses or cattle.

Wasn’t a happy start this morning but, for the last tank, I fueled up and then noticed the additive in the car when I was cleaning it. We’ll see how this tank goes. 750kms on this tank. :D

I wanna try Howes, so will get some for next tank and letcha know how it goes ;)

Be happy you are not having to deal with DEF. Stupidest idea ever conceived for cold climate operations and not much better in warmer conditions.

Ocassionally car companies fuck up and build a really good engine.

Engines would last longer if car companies put in pre -lube pumps (pumps around oil, before turning over engine). Most wear and tear on engines happen during start-up.

There is a good documentary on the VW scandal on Netflix. Apparently diesel engines have the worst emissions (compared to gas- best way to think of it is the stink of diesel burning compared to a gas engine). So other manufacturers were wondering how VW solved it in their diesels. They cheated. The Pollution control was only engaged during testing for emissions and bypassed during normal driving (thus putting more emissions into the air).

Being a trucker for the last 28 years, owning my own trucks, I've used mostly Howes conditioner. Back in the 90's it was necessary to keep diesel from gelling. I never noticed any better mileage or performance. I've talked to a few mechanics and fleet owners and have received virtually the same advice. They pretty much said that conditioner is not necessary anymore as our blended fuel is much better nowadays and all modern diesel engines have a fuel return system which returns warm fuel back to the tank and prevents gelling. They do suggest running conditioner or an injector cleaner 2 or 3 times a year just to keep your injectors clean. Something everyone should do whether it be diesel or gas.

funny you say so. I just ran injector cleaner through and it made a huge difference.
