Sorry for bringing up an old thread, but I didn't want to start a new one.

My question is, what do you do if you have no relatives in Canada and can't think of anybody you could ask to be your executor, but want to leave everything you have to charity? (As opposed to an estranged sister and distant relatives you've never seen back in Europe)
my lawyer is also my executor: he will 'claim' 10% of my estate as the
executor fees.

if all you have is going to ONE charity, then name them the executors ... they
will do the same thing, get a lawyer to handle the details and take the rest.

when you write the Will, do NOT mention the 'family' in it in any way ...
if you think you want to leave them a dollar just to spite them, then they
can contest the Will and could take the assets.

Most charities have a person who handles all the paperwork to assist a person to donate to them. I would contact the charity you are interested in and see if they have such a person and will assist in writing and registering your will.

I'm probably in my house.
My twin gets everything except for the animals, my fireman and his family get the beasts, and a good friend is my executor. Done and done.
