Yea, I know, it is baseball and you are Canadians, but there was something very special for most of you there.

Brett Lawrie, from Lagnley, I believe, made his home debut with the Blue Jays and got a standing ovation his first at bat. But he was facing another BC guy, Rich Harden from Victoria, pitching for the A's.

Harden got him out all three times he batted, twice on strike outs, the last time on a 3-2 count with runners on first and third. Lawrie was the last battler he faced to end the seventh. Reports in the news this morning say when he returned to the dugout he was more pumped up than any of his team-mates had ever seen him.

It was his first win in Canada, and against a highly touted Blue Jays rookie. Obviously the game had great meaning for him.

Nice to see more Canadians especially from BC excel in America's favorite past time. Victoria boy Rich Harden is a product of the Oakland A's much talked about moneyball system.

Yes, and the Movie comes out next month. Probably not in Canada because NGARA.
This year's " Blind Side ". Brad Pitt's ticket to the Oscars. Would be nice to see Brad win his first and Emma Stone and the " The Help " sweeping it.

I turned it on just after Harden loaded the bases in the first. The next 9 or so pitches were absolute insanity. The Red Sox must be sick for passing on him.

Such a hot streak by the Detroit Tigers this September. I hope they continue it, the city and the wonderful people of Detroit who suffered so much needs something to smile about. :) :)

I was a HUGE baseball fan my entire life. However, two years ago, the NY Yankees did something that I thought was impossible. When they spent half a billion dollars to sign 3 players, they totally killed my interest in MLB. I still enjoy Vancouver Canadians ball.

I love baseball, been a fan my whole life of the Boston Red Sox. Went through more heartbreak and misery with that team than any girl i was ever involved with. From Bucky Dent to Buckner to Boone all heartbreaking experinces till 2004. Then it all changed when Boston came back from 0-3 to beat the Yanks in 7.

Some great posts here and i agree with old pooner about the Yankees spending all that dough on 3 players. Yes the Red Sox spend a ton as well but they have no choice if they want to keep up with New York. Should be a good stretch run and there is no gurantee all the money spent will help in the playoffs.

I could not be more proud of some of the great Canadians playing MLB. Brett Lawrie not only looks like the best Canadian prospect in a long time but maybe the best prospect in baseball, just maybe. Keep up the fine work BC, some damn good ball players coming out of your province the last few years.

For those who are truly interested in baseball stats and its use in selecting future drafts, "Moneyball--The Movie" has its world premier tonight in that world famous entertainment mecca, Oakland, CA.

Hold onto your wallets.

It's not that we are Canadians so much but the team you are talking about is from their perceived Centre of the Universe.

That said, I do follow BB and do visit parks in the USA for a game every time I am down there during BB season.
So far: Wrigley Field, Camden Yards, Anaheim, Oakland, Seattle and Texas. Still want to get to the new Yankee Stadium one day :D

Thanks for posting about one of our boys!

The thing that never gets mentioned about the "red sox curse" is that their owner's racism probably cost them at least 1 world series. They waited almost 12 1/2 years after Jackie Robinson because their owner was a bigot. They had bad teams and by waiting as long as they did to even begin to scout black and latino players set their franchise back 20 years...but it is more fun to blame Babe Ruth
