The Government of Canada is seeking the public's input on the criminal law's response to adult prostitution (i.e. the sale and purchase of sexual services from persons 18 years of age or older). This online consultation is open from February 17 to March 17, 2014.

The following link: http://www.justice.gc.ca/eng/cons/curr-cours/proscons-conspros/index.html#2014_02_17 is to the official government page where members of the public can provide input on the following questions:

1. Do you think that purchasing sexual services from an adult should be a criminal offence? Should there be any exceptions? Please explain.

2. Do you think that selling sexual services by an adult should be a criminal offence? Should there be any exceptions? Please explain.

3. If you support allowing the sale or purchase of sexual services, what limitations should there be, if any, on where or how this can be conducted? Please explain.

4. Do you think that it should be a criminal offence for a person to benefit economically from the prostitution of an adult? Should there be any exceptions? Please explain.

5. Are there any other comments you wish to offer to inform the Government's response to the Bedford decision?

6. Are you are writing on behalf of an organization? If so, please identify the organization and your title or role:

While it is debatable as to how much weight this will have in the legislation that the majority conservative government will ultimately put forward, I suspect that not taking the opportunity to voice an opinion (regardless of whether one is in support of decriminalization, legalization, criminalization, or some other option) only ensures that the government has no excuse not to do whatever they feel like doing.

be well,

Chris

...................................................................

More reasons for the survey as why it is not a good model for Canada.......

Apart from what has been said earlier - Pushing the legal trade further underground, Putting sex workers in danger, being hence unconstitutional as they are worse laws than ones struck down, criminalizing mostly decent people with no prior records, being discriminatory, Regarding women as delinquent and not responsible for their actions, Clients unable to report cases of trafficked and forced and underage when they come across since they would become criminals...........This is another:

This great country is based on a secular system where individuals decide to live their lives as they wish as long as there is no harm to others. This is not a religious republic. So start drafting the laws based on that. Draft targeted laws which will target THOSE WHO CAUSE HARM TO OTHERS like pimps, traffickers, bad Johns. Those clients who engage in sex with consenting adults who are in this profession on their own free will in fact are helping the workers to pay for their family, college fees and build a future, rent and food. It is a win-win situation. Do not outlaw this and clog further our welfare system.

Do not waste our scarce police recourses on arresting law abiding citizens instead let them concentrate on real crimes clogged their system like sexual assaults, robberies, unsafe streets, drugs, break-ins, rapes, domestic violence,,,,,,,

Speak out NOW. Respond to government survey.
