I remember when I was a kid going to Mara lake in the late 70s. Even then the level of the lake was dropping down.
I remember high school in Kelowna in the early 80s, and friend jumping their bikes into OK lake in Kelowna City park. So I was wondering if the OK lake level was going down.
But the level has stayed the same.
I think the population of Kelowna has double since then. So water usage should of gone up.
A lot of wineries have been built around OK lake since then.
The reality is that the OK valley area from Vernon south to the US border, with various Lakes. Its a semi-desert area.
So how has it maintained the level on the OK lake beside Kelowna?

It's a conspiracy !

I have heard from reliable sources that there are secret underground tunnels through the mountains that are gradually siphoning water from Mara Lake (and others) into Okanagan Lake.

Those Kelowna bastards can't get away with this !

Water constantly flows into Okanagan Lake via Mission Creek and others. The level is controlled by a series of dams south of Penticton to control the drain into Skaha Lake, Osoyoos Lake and the Okanagan river.

Worrisome what will happen to the lakes nonetheless but it's now quite alarming what's happening to the snow pack and glaciers. Hard to recognize or simply a stunning difference looking at the mountains from 20 years ago compare to now. The hydrology won't be maintained by the dams for another few decades if it continues at that rythme.

Having grown up in northern sask lake country and enjoyed a lake front cabin in the family for 43 yrs now I find these water level issues sad and especially disturbing. Where are we going? Nowhere good

Thats a fucken long tunnel....
But the fact the the snow in the surrounding mountains is getting less and earlier runoffs in the spring, make late Aug looking like a dryer and dryer month. Hence more fires.

Might I suggest a equally long tunnel from Rod plants (Sea water to fresh water) on the coast up to the Okanogan.... or further up to Mara using Uncled tunnels; might ever make those tunnels go to Alberta...
