Speech: “Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears”
By William Shakespeare

(from Julius Caesar, spoken by Marc Antony)

Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears;
I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him.
The evil that men do lives after them;
The good is oft interred with their bones;
So let it be with Caesar. The noble Brutus
Hath told you Caesar was ambitious:
If it were so, it was a grievous fault,
And grievously hath Caesar answer’d it.
Here, under leave of Brutus and the rest–
For Brutus is an honourable man;
So are they all, all honourable men–
Come I to speak in Caesar’s funeral.
He was my friend, faithful and just to me:
But Brutus says he was ambitious;
And Brutus is an honourable man.
He hath brought many captives home to Rome
Whose ransoms did the general coffers fill:
Did this in Caesar seem ambitious?
When that the poor have cried, Caesar hath wept:
Ambition should be made of sterner stuff:
Yet Brutus says he was ambitious;
And Brutus is an honourable man.
You all did see that on the Lupercal
I thrice presented him a kingly crown,
Which he did thrice refuse: was this ambition?
Yet Brutus says he was ambitious;
And, sure, he is an honourable man.
I speak not to disprove what Brutus spoke,
But here I am to speak what I do know.
You all did love him once, not without cause:
What cause withholds you then, to mourn for him?
O judgment! thou art fled to brutish beasts,
And men have lost their reason. Bear with me;
My heart is in the coffin there with Caesar,
And I must pause till it come back to me.

An exchange of time was made for money. The transaction is concluded, and the wrongs have been neutralized.
So are you saying it’s okay to rape a woman as long as you have the financial means to buy your way out it? That paying money neutralizes the fact it is simply wrong to rape someone?

I did not say "it's okay to rape a woman" anywhere in that sentence. Please don't draw strawman arguments.

What is "right" and "wrong" is different what what is "ongoing" and "finished". "Right and wrong" is a matter of morality, and your personal opinion given your cultural upbringing and environment. Opinions are not facts. You are not more right just because you believe your opinion to be.

What is a fact is that the victim concluded the allegations with a transaction and both parties have accepted the consequences of neutralizing a wrongdoing. Your ideas about what is right or wrong is your personal argument to showcase your own morality and has little value.

For the record, I think the rape is wrong, but my opinion isn't going to change what happened nor what was accepted. What I do know is that a famous athlete died and... that's all she wrote.

I don’t understand all the negativity about this?

We have an athlete that was one of the best at his craft. He had flaws, as all of us have. He’d acknowledged those flaws and at least gave the outward appearance that he’d changed. He also gave the impression of being a caring, loving father. I say “impression” as most of us didn’t know him personally. He died a tragic, horrendous death with his beloved daughter beside him. How callous and heartless must you be if that doesn’t affect you?

It says a lot about you....

Uh, no.

He was a skilled, highly-rewarded performer, who was a stranger to most, beyond his chosen field of endeavor.

As I pondered before - why does the death of someone people don't know affect anyone, let alone have grown men weeping?

you haven't seen the news in the last few days?

the nauseating superficial bullshit from people praising someone, they didn't know, had no effect on their lives, in any substantial way,
who just played basketball, like he was some kind of superior human

it says more about them and our society's lack of character when it comes to reality, that's what's really sad here

people are always going to react against bullshit

this is the PR norm now, someone dies, they are instantly great humans, going to be missed forever, never forgotten

where were you when you heard Kobe died? :drama:

till next week when someone else dies

never again, till the next mass shooting, lol

just look at the lack of concern for all the others who also where in the chopper

crickets

what does that say about our society?

What a tortured explanation but your exact words were "An exchange of time was made for money. The transaction is concluded, and the wrongs have been neutralized."

If it's wrong it's wrong and money can't "neutralize" it.

Here’s the problem, it’s not rape unless you are convicted of rape, and do time... that’s the sad fact’s of it... everything else is just an assumption. Over course he was not completely innocent, but do you think he is going to pay all that money and say he did nothing wrong? All it amounted to was her getting a cash settlement, and him getting it off the front page of the papers. I personally wish that if she really felt strongly that he raped her she would have taken it all the way to set an example that people in power can’t do those kind of things. Unfortunately she didn’t, so we will never know the truth.

and now for the latest tragedy

a real tragic event of our time

Pamela Anderson's latest "marriage" is over after only 12 days

questions still remain on who gets the half bottle of Tequila from the reception

So she’s available again? Might have to look into that. I’m sure she would find me more than adequate.

Jeez, how much of an over-the-top asshole is Snoop Dogg? For daring ask about Kobe's rape, this has-been rapper goes off on Gayle King, and even threatens her. Can anyone imagine what the reaction would be if a white man said this?:

“Gayle King, out of pocket for that s**t, way out of pocket,” Snoop Dogg said. “What do you gain from that? I swear to God, we the worst. We the f***in worst. We expect more from you, Gayle. Don’t you hang out with Oprah? Why y’all attacking us?”

“We your people,” Snoop Dogg continued. “You ain’t coming after f***in Harvey Weinstein asking them dumba*s questions. I get sick of y’all.”

“I want to call you one, is it okay if I call her one? Funky dog head b**ch,” Snoop Dogg concluded. “How dare you try to tarnish my f***in homeboy’s reputation. Punk motherf***er. Respect the family and back off, b*tch. Before we come get you.”

And now she’s getting death threats too.
All this herd animal mob mentality is sickening.

The guy was a great basketball player AND a rapist.

Ed Kemper had an IQ score of 145 AND he is a serial killer.

My personal opinion; What a waste of a great mind...but, whatever, it is what it is.

^^ just saying. It’s possible to be great at some things yet be guilty of committing horrific acts

Another example of greatness that coexisted with shadow; William Shockley, a very bright mind who caused a lot of controversy.
