I guess he didn't pay any attention to the ESPN guy who got fired for using the same term in a headline for Jeremy Lin only months ago...
He doesn't know a lot of things. He doesn't know how to play football well either

Come on, all of us here dislike racial slurs and we are puzzled when Afro Americans call themselves the N word, Indo Canadian people call themselves Brown but don't like other races calling them by that term and one of my Chinese friends calls me round eye; bottom line is racism is out there everywhere.
Mitchell is here to play and perhaps Wally can get him to keep his mouth shut for the rest of the season.

It doesn't surprise me that you would try to minimize a racial slur by a public figure. Thankfully, people like you are in the minority.
Is it something that caused irreparable harm? No, probably not (except to his own image). But the Lions and the CFL made the right choice to discipline him as this is obviously unacceptable behaviour.
I think that most people would agree that Mitchell was wrong to use that term. Being a professional athlete puts you in the public eye and like it or not, you have to guide yourself accordingly.
I agree that many (if not all) people are culturally insensitive to some degree. However, that doesn't mean we should excuse someone for tweeting out a racist slur.
Also, I don't really see how directing his slur to the masses makes it not as bad.
Now I'm not saying throw the book at him, but IMO a small fine and a sitting out one game is the right message to send.
Kalif is a very talented Defensive Tackle.Hes also a self taught pianist so hes not stupid.However im not buyin his story it was ignorant and embarrassing.He could have had a shot at the NFL but wanted to return to BC.Hes not playing to his potential this season,been previously suspended and was recently injured.He better behave play smart football for the rest of the season or he will be gone regardless of his enormous size and talent.

Did you consider the possibility that more than just the Asian (see what I did there with the capitalization?) population of Vancouver was offended? Not all of the non-Asian population thinks that what was said is fine, just don't acknowledge it publicly. I'm as Caucasian as you can get (English-Swedish) and I find the ignorance of twats like Mr. Mitchell to be insufferable. Whether they are conscious of their ignorance doesn't make any difference to me. I prefer professional athletes to be held to a certain standard of conduct, and for me, the standard extends beyond the playing field.
He is not the sharpest knife in the drawer that is for sure. Whenever I hear him speak he is one of those guys who overcompensates by trying to sound smart and uses what he thinks are articulate phrases but in fact he uses a word totally incorrectly or pretty much makes up a word.

Thing is he is one of the best players at his position in the league so the Leos will keep him for the balance of the year to try and repeat as Champs. Then he goes. Yes, there is a double standard when in comes to athletes who do dumb things repeatedly like Khalif. Good players stay so the team can win, mediocre ones are moved asap. Do I like it, no but that is the reality of pro sports.

This guy is garbage. Seems he is always in some sort of controversy and it appears the Lions are getting a little tired of it as it is becoming a distraction to a good football club. Yes, this guy is pretty good at his position in the CFL but slowly becoming more trouble than he is worth. The play where he broke Simeon Rottier's arm in game earlier this season was not a footbal play in any way and the CFL did the right thing to suspend him for 2 games which may seem light but pretty severe by CFL standards. He is dirty player with no respect for his opponents. He still has not issued an apology and continues to act like a fool with the throat slashing gestures and now this stupid comment.
I don't think he will last long in the CFL, there are a lot of good Defensive players that come with far less baggage than this guy. THe NFL won't tolerate him, not that i think he has ther talent for the NFL but my guess is the Lions release him and he ends up in Hamilton somewhere next year. His act won't change and he will bounced again and maybe end up in the United Football League. Look for him to finally land as a bouncer at Hooters or a strip club somewhere, then likely prison.
