Keeping up with the Joneses?

Hopefully this is a slightly new wrinkle on the typical questions about rates. Yes, it's obvious that there is a wide range of SP rates available, a wide range of quality of experience at every price point, and an even wider range of what clients are looking for. An active marketplace should mean that everyone can find what they're looking for. So, with that bit of flame deflection out of the way, on to the question.

Is it possible that one of the factors driving some SP prices up is the sense that either "those women who aren't as good as me are charging the same or slightly less than me" or "those women who I'm as good as are charging more than me"? You know, kind of the athlete-wanting-to-renegotiate-contract syndrome?

More flame deflection: I'm not calling out anyone's rates - SP's can charge whatever they want, our choice is whether or not to call and pay those rates. Simple.

Thanks,
Bill

(Been lurking around for a bit, haven't quite figured out how to write reviews that might be useful. In Vancouver, have so far only seen well-reviewed and established SP's. Have read a lot, but far from everything, so this might be an old subject around here.)

I dunno if it's a hate-on between the girls about other girls charging more that they see themselves as better than, maybe it's just that they see there is more money available so they try to take advantage of that opportunity?

I doubt if it has anything to do with liking or disliking other sps, or thinking they are better or not better. Most sps set their rates depending on the market, what their clientele they are wanting to see, and when a high rate sp's rate goes up it is usually because her costs are going up and/or because she is unhappy with the quality of the kind of caller her rates are getting her. At a certain level, the sps are much more cooperative and friendly with each other than some guys want you to believe. Some guys are very old school with their stereotypes, imo. 5 years ago, a very small number of sps did duos. Now it is rare to see an sp at those higher rates who doesn't. The only way this session works is because most sps are friendly and get along with each other.

If an sp at any rate can't get along with the majority of other sps, that says a lot about her attitude in general.

A new sp might set a rate based on what others charge, or because someone gives them advice about what they should charge, but it is really hard to believe that someone raises their rates to prove how much better they are than the next sp lol. Not sure how effective that would be as a tactic.

Ultimately it's just supply and demand. For example, when Angel started out years ago she was very reasonably priced (something like $125 as I recall) and she was getting loads of clients every day at her incall that was then in Surrey However I think for her that led to burnout and she adjusted her prices upwards so that the demand was reduced. If she can keep a steady business and earn a good income at the price she charges then that works for her. It's market pricing and one decides themselves which part of the market they want to compete in - high end/low volume, mid priced or high volume/low priced.

yeah I don't agree with the notion that SP's are at some type of rate war...In competition maybe yes. Especially SP's who are very similar to each other (in terms of age/body type/ethnicity/location/services) are in direct competition because they are targeting the same clientele, and it would make sense if their rates were similar too.

Most SP's get along very well, they do duos, and share incalls sometimes in groups too.

Theres another thread saying that sp's prices are going low, and now theres chatter about prices going up...so which is it? Aren't rates always fluctuating? I mean the minimum wage in BC has been going up in the last 2 years, and you can't expect rates to stay the same for a decade, its not fair because the prices for everything else has gone up, why should SP rates stay the same or go down?

People should stop complaining and just stick to what you can afford, don't lust after the girls outside your budget, just because you can't pay it doesn't mean there aren't hundreds of other clients who can. Obviously they are successful with their prices if its listed there, so negotiating would be a huge insult. When people say things like "we are paying that - so they will keep charging that/we should vote with our wallets/our choice whether to call and pay etc", it doesn't necessarily mean YOU and your budget that are dictating all the price points, there are men in this world with billions of dollars, and men with just a few pennies to their name. If there is a clientele group that can afford to, there will be ladies who will be able to charge as much as they want to, and don't be surprised if they are comfortably busy.

I don't usually agree with Caramel, but that was an excellent post. I couldn't agree further.

People just like to complain for the sake of it.

Edit: I agree it might be frustrating when your favourite SP has risen her rates to keep up with the joneses, but that's her right. Go back to the drawing board and find another.
