Have developed jock itch.

Seems fairly mild, but don't know much about it.

Anyone have any experience dealing with it?

Do I see a doctor? Is it just something a soap or cream will take care of? How long does it take to get rid of? Is it spreadable?

Usually if it's purely jock itch something like Gold Bond will work.

If it's red and inflamed then it's an infection which is quickly taken care of by a lamisil type product.

Talk to the pharmacist because they have some over the counter creme that works well without a prescription.

It is possible to be spread through sexual contact. If has been caused by a bacterial fungus then an over the counter product like a product for athletes foot or even for a yeast infection (such as Canesten cream), can help to get rid of it quite easily. Just dry off well after the shower and apply the cream to the affected area daily and you will notice a difference within days. You can even apply extra during the day. Go down to the pharmacy and get something today. The sooner you try to clear it up the better.
Bacterial fungus? I think those are two different things.

I won't offer medical advice, but I can tell you of my experience. I had a case a while back, and thought I had it beaten using Canesten. However, it flared up again so I went to see a doctor. His diagnosis, later confirmed by lab tests, was that it had started as an ordinary fungal infection, but an "opportunistic" bacterial infection had set in too. The doctor gave me a prescription for an anti-bacterial cream and told me to use it along with something like Canesten, applying both to the same area. The combination worked within about a week or ten days.

For me, seeing a doctor was the right thing to do. I did avoid sexual activity for about a month, just to be sure it had cleared up.

Scrub-a-dub-dub
Soap, wash and scrub down is your first step.
Bacteria do not exist on their own. They have to live off something.
Pubic area has apocrine sweat glands that release through the hair follicle.
This sweat has plasma that carries proteins and waste products that attract bacteria if not washed off
What L D said plus add if the area is properly groomed then the potential for sweat lingering is less because most underwear will wick the moisture away from the surface.

and this little BBB secret has worked wonderfully for me :D

Thanks for the tips.

I'm surprised, if it can be spread with sexual contact that it isn't more widespread. Or is it?

Saw a doctor for sinus infection a few weeks ago and now he says that the antibiotics may have led to it because it killed off my natural bugs that eat crotch rot.

Isn't on my cock or balls, just the seam where my leg meets my groin, and mostly just on one side.

He prescribed a cream and even the first application removed the itching. Said after 3-4 days I should see most of it gone, but continue applying it for about a week.

Exactly what happened to me a year ago when I got a spider bite. The antibiotic killed all the good flora in the body and voila I got a yeast infection between the boys and the legs. Lamisil fixed it PDQ.

I still use the Fresh Balls stuff regularly and find that really helped during the hot weather.

I've been reading a lot about jock itch and hope mine goes away quickly like it's supposed to, but some poor fucks seem to be plagued by it for months or even years.

Keeping the ph of skin right seems to be a helpful. Read that soaking in a tub with disolved salt or epsom salt and 1/3 cup vinegar every week or so is a preventative. Might just try that. Epson baths are good for sore muscles anyway.

I was under the impression Canestan was not to be used long term.

I don't think the average healthy person should need anything on a daily basis.

my understanding is that you never really get rid of fungus conditions once they establish themselves - they just go into remission; that is, they retreat into spore form and lie dormant until the next time your immune system gets run down then they spring up again. sort of chronic

so i could see that once a person suffers an attack, it will be much easier for the fungus to break out again the next time, so some kind of treatment would be necessary for some people

Definitely no sex until it goes away.

Moisture is what you don't want. Check out the advice here, get some anti-fungal stuff from the drug store, or go to a doctor if it persists.

use a strong soap,
I like to cycle a lot and things can get sweaty and itching down there,

strong soap, you can buy, things like a coal tar soap or a carbolic soap, which both have antiseptic qualities they come in bars, hard to find but some natural organic stores have them, or you can order them on line, google soap store or soap works, I forget but there is an online Canadian drug store, you can buy it from,

failing that, irish spring soap, and shower daily twice daily even and changer your undies lots.
