I've been to a lot of cities all over the world and Vancouver is at or near the top in my book. Try some of the places like Kingston Jamaica, Mexico City, Washington DC, Chicago, Detroit, downtown LA and you'll have a greater appreciation for Vancouver.

Can we meet tomorrow at the bus depot, I will be more than happy to buy you a ticket out of town to some shithole that I am sure you will critizie shortly after you get there.

This city is where I was born and grew up, admittedly that was a long time ago and lots of things have changed in those years but Vancouver on a bleak day in the winter when it is damp and cold is still a beautiful place, JUST LOOK UP!

I am guessing you don't own any real estate and therefore the complaint about the price. I know of a 3 bedroom house that I can get you in Southern Sask. for a good price. Enjoy the gophers!

As far as the rest of your whining you will not find many cosmopolitam cities in this world without that baggage. And how can you not find a job in this city? Oh, I know you are spending too much time bitching for anybody to actually listen to you.

HAHA !!! Too Funny. Get a grip buddy. Try Edmonton. Freeze your ass off in the winter and when the ice melts you get to dodge the gobs of spit all over the sidewalks. Every once in a while, I go downtown near the Citadel Theatre and the Winspear Concert Hall (I assume this is supposed to be the classy part of town). Not only do you have to watch your step on the sidewalks outside but ya gotta watch your step INSIDE. Same with people pissing in the elevator of both buildings. Can it get any more disgusting??? I realize every city has it stench in parkade stairwells but this is supposed to be the classy part of Edmonton. I won't even bother telling you about the slum areas !
Haha. We think alike. Little edmonton. Its home. I travel a lot. I mean a lot. I have seen a lot. I would have to say Vancouver is the most beautiful places in the world. It rains so much even the junkies are clean. Haha. But when the sun cums out everything is so green and sexy. Every city has its bad areas trust me. But as life is and we all have learned, take the good with the bad. There is always somethin goin on in Vancouver. Join a yoga class or somethin. Lol maybe you loosen up a bit and enjoy the good stuff , Mr. I hate Vancouver. !!! Or maybe you just need more sex! Than you can really chiller out!

You people have weak comments...

So far the posts haven't convinced me that Vancouver isn't a shithole...

I am sure for old people who bought properties 30 years ago, and now have 7 figure net worths, Vancouver is great in their eyes! Of course it is... In addition, they likely have pensions coming out of their cakeholes. My comments are directed towards a young 35 and under person's point of view. If you don't own property in Vancouver, you are fighting a losing battle if you are just some smuck working an average job and hope to buy a 900k home in kits. What you don't realize is your disposable income is a fraction of your parents generation, in addition, jobs are less stable. Give your heads a shake, and look at other cities....If Calgary wasn't so cold, i can guarantee, 500,000 people would move there within 1 month...can you say mass exodus from Vancouver!

In comparision, the cost in living in Calgary is 60% of Vancouver. Meaning, if you make 100k in Vancouver, you only need to earn 60k to live the exact same lifestyle in Calgary. But wait, Vancouver is the greatest right...

Scary thing is...Halifax is even better than Calgary... and it has an Ocean, basically no junkies, better scenery, and overall, more down to earth, people.

Bullshit! Do you employ poeple in Calgary and have to monitor their compensation in order to keep up with the RAPID growth in the cost of living and to not lose good people in an ultra competitive job market? I DO! Calgary is quickly approaching Vancouver, especially when it comes to housing. You are way off with the 60% figure. If you're going to pick a number out of your ass, at least be in the ballpark as it only make your case that much less credible. Taxation is the big benefit there, not the cost of living. Regina & Winnipeg are more like 60%.

What's stopping you from moving to Alberta? You'll find a great job in a heartbeat because if you can't, you must be a total schmuck.

See points 1 and 2 below

What you don't realize is your disposable income is a fraction of your parents generation, in addition, jobs are less stable.
And this is different from the rest of the country because ...

Give your heads a shake, and look at other cities....If Calgary wasn't so cold, i can guarantee, 500,000 people would move there within 1 month...can you say mass exodus from Vancouver!
Give YOUR head a shake cuz you answered your own question before you even finished asking it LOL. Also note point 3 below.

Number 1. You can not live off of net worth

Number 2. If they are living off of pensions, maybe the cost of living isn't as bad as you are trying to con peopple into believeing it is.

Number 3. The most authoritiative news in Canada featuring articles from The Globe and Mail, breaking news coverage, national news, international news, sports, weather, Report on Business. ... E-mail this article. Comments (144) Housing prices top $300,000 ... Alberta's resale market led the gains, with home prices in Calgary soaring 43.6 per cent to $358,214 ...

Number 4. Don't forget to sent a post card from Halifax next week. You can be there Monday seeing as you have no property to dispose of and just an "average" job holding you back. See ya. Keep in touch Eh :)

Don't be such a smart ass, last year meaning 2005 easily you could have bought a nice, I mean a really nice house in Coquitlam area for $300.000.
not that i agree with the dumb-bum or disagree with you, but
since when is Coquitlam part of Vancouver?

its like saying Red Deer is part of Calgary! (and i wouldn't live in either!)

I don't think Van is a shit-hole, but it is EXPENSIVE! no one, not one guy
who posted here can say other wise.

you pay a lot for the scenery and weather and the amenities and if you don't
have the income its forget it.

and LOTS of those new jobs are low-paying service garbage ... its no wonder
they can't be filled because no one is stupid enough to work for some millionaire business owner who only pays minimum wage.

but its not just Van ...the whole lower mainland and island is just getting
ridiculous ... its one thing to pay $300,000 to live near Van, but i live in a small town where the main occupation up until the construction boom was goat fucking!

so now all the goat fuckers are in the construction business ... you can imagine how well that's going!

Vancouver is nice city but too expensive

Vancouver is a nice city and to those who live there probably believe it is best place to live. However, the city overpriced for any normal person to live in. Yes, housing in Calgary and Edmonton are on the rise but not as ridiculous as in Vancouver or in Victoria.
I prefer to be close to the mountains, places like Canmore and Three Sisters. Cochrane was a small town, bedroom community west of Calgary but since this latest boom it looks like Calgary will swallow up Cochrane.
Whistler seems like a nice community but real estate is out of this world ever since Vancouver received the bid to host the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Vancouver is not a shit hole but it is a very expensive city to live at the present time.
Again, I perfer to live in Alberta because we have only the stupid gst and not both pst and gst like British Columbia and other provinces.

I find it hard to believe that people pissing in elevators at the Winspear or Citadel would happen at any constant basis. I could believe it if it's occasionally some drunken homeless fuck wandering around in a stupor after his daily pop can excavation. If it happens that often, then why doesn't someone inform the management types so they can hire some security?

BTW, why are you slamming poor ol' E-town anyway? Do you not live here anymore? Have you no civic pride?
