Leolist is the preferred SP listing site around here. You definitely want to use it over Backpage. Both have their share of girls using fake pics, but BP seems far worse.
Your best bet is to, do a Google Image search for the pics in the ad to verify their authenticity. You can just put the pic, or the url to the pic in here: https://images.google.com/
Also do a search in 411 and reviews for the last 4 digits of the phone number in the ad, and/or the SP name.

Don't forget: LL is not safe as it is not encrypted (not https). As such, any communications to/from that site can be read and/or recorded by any third party with network access between you and the site. So, if you're concerned about that, you may want to connect via a VPN service or something.
One reason some ladies don't accept USD is fear of counterfeit money. We deal everyday with Canadian money, but if you haven't dealt with us currency in a while, it's hard to tell. Starlit, from Atlantis and I had an hour together...they advertise her as 21 but she's actually 30, (but a very youthful 30). The demure Papasan greets you at the back door (you also park behind the building so it's somewhat discreet) and he leads you to an ensuite, asks 'how-long', (I said almost 8" but I don't think he got the joke) and took my $60 for the hour room fee and said he would send in the girls.
