What's the best way to keep an iPod battery functioning at peak efficiency? I always let mine run down to nothing - then do a full charge. The bastard craps right out with no warning when out of juice, so I'm sometimes SOL until I can get a charge, but I assume it keeps the battery from developing a "memory". Or do they?

Mine will do the exact same thing, in the middle of jammin to a great tune and then poof it goes:mad:

Faster charge if you have the little guy, IPOD shuffle is to use a USB 2.O, compared to the regular.

A few quick things...

Hey all,

First off, and to asnwer the initial question in this thread, newer Li ion batteries shouldn't develop memory even if charged midway through a use cycle, provided they are charged to full capacity each time. Moreover, if storing for a longer period of inactivity, optimum storage charge is around 40% of a full charge, not, contrary to popular belief, empty.

(ref: http://www.batteryuniversity.com/parttwo-34.htm)

A second quick note to point out that USB 2.0 shouldn't allow for faster charging over USB 1.0, since the difference in these 2 standards in bandwidth... they're delievered current is identical.

my ipod

I found that my ipod wasn't holding as great of a charge as it should have been. I sent it back to have them replace the battery and everything and then found out that it was just the USB cord connecting my ipod to my computer htat had the deficiency.

You can pick up another charger cord for it for about 15-20 bux... It might be worth a shot if nothing else works.\

There have been numerous issues surrounding ipod batteries and that is why I bought a Creative Labs unit that allows me to replace them myself. For more iPod Battery FAQ's look here:

I pods

I assume they are like cell phone batteries. I to have found it doesn't hold as long of a charge. When I got the Nano, I charged it all of the way and I only charge it when it is dead. This helps.

I was stuck once and I forgot my cord to plug it in. I bought a great kit that has a charger for the car as well as a wall charger with no need to plug it into a PC.

The problem remains that when the battery goes you have to send the whole unit back to Apple - and they tend to soak ya.
