My PC is running at a system temp. of 102F(39C) and the processor is 108F(40C). It's a P4 / 2Ghz. The little meter indicates that the system & processor temp's are almost in the yellow zone so I wanted to see what similar Intel P4 systems are running at to establish a baseline.

there are database available on the net, just do a search. It will depend largely on your stepping number(excluding factors like motherboard,cooling,overclocking...ect)

Sounds like your probably running a 2gig P4 Willamette. Those cock-suckers run hot. At 75 watts with 1.75volts, it's gonna run in the high 30's compared to the P4 2.0a Northwood that runs on 52 watts at 1.5v

Time to upgrade, if your still running a Willamette. That processor is almost 5 yrs old.

From www.silentpcreview.com:

Intel P4 Willamette core (1.3-2.0 GHz):
Early P4s with typical power from 49W to 75W, these hot processors are difficult to cool quietly, despite the large HS form factor. Serious undervolting and underclocking may work. Thermal protection throttles speed under high loads so maximum power (100W for 2GHz) may never be reached. Thus, these (and all P4s) very tolerant of thermal abuse.

IMHO, if your CPU is idling under 50ºC and stays under 70ºC at load, you should be OK. Cooler is always better of course -- CPU temps of mid-30s at idle and under 50ºC at load are what most users should aim for.
