Implants, in your jaw not in your chest

My bottom teeth are a mess. My new dentist wants to install implants or a partial plate.

Another dentist was installing a bridge. He clamped the teeth on either side too tight and broke them. Hurts like hell, imagine a hole in your mouth with abscessed teeth on either side. I am looking at three implants to fill the gap.

So have any of you had a dental implant lately? How long was the whole process?

I feel for you woody. My teeth are good and I hope I keep that way. Dentists scare the crap out of me.

Have you tried the MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) technique with your dentist? When he says "this may hurt a bit", you just reach over and grab him by the balls and say "not as much as it will hurt you."

State of confusion
I have had two dental implants, and I am very pleased to have made those decisions.
I worship my dentist.

I got one a few years back that took a very long time to solidify in my jaw. It took a while to solidify because the jaw didn't adhere with the Ti hole and am glad I followed the dental surgeon's advise. I had to put up with a "flipper" false tooth for over six months. When I was playing sports actively, I removed it and I looked like Bobby Clarke

I have seen how they are promoted as a one day service now and strongly advise you follow your surgeon's advise. The jaw bone sometimes requires additional time to have a post set that will hold. Some people are fortunate that they can have a Titanium hole set the same day but I am betting the majority of the population can not do it.

Not sure of your cost from your dental surgeon but a singular tooth for me was like 8 X the highest end escort I've visited ever. A whole row of bottom teeth would be a nice European Sports Car.

Good luck with your choice. I recommend the implant without hesitation if it's affordable, sadly.

I had one installed, don't think it took longer than 20 minutes with no pain at any point. I waited months later before having the cap installed and no issues ever. There are horror stories out there. The ads for the one day implant and cap installation goes against the widely held belief that the implant needs to bond to the bone before installing the cap and chewing with that tooth.

Cost estimate is 3-4k. Teeth on either side will need crowns.

I also need a veneer on one of my front teeth. An old one popped off while I was eating a sundae at Dairy Queen...I spat it out and thought it was someone's fingernail and then THE PAIN started.

Looks like one implant coming up. I can't even think about pooning right now.

Why would anyone allow a dentist to install a bridge and destroy two good teeth to cover up one bad one.

I have a couple of implants and they are the way to go, they had to install some coral for the bone to grow around the implant base. After that healed they put the crown on and I have had no issue since, you must make sure you floss and take care of your teeth and it’s all good. It will cost you but well worth it!

Look left. Way left.
A few years ago I had three implants put in. I did a lot of research and ended up working with a pair of University professors that do actual work part-time. Everything was very professional and thoroughly explained to me beforehand. I believe the recovery time from the implant surgery was about 2 weeks.
All has turned out well for me. The cost for the 3 implants was between $9-10k.
It's worth taking the time to do it properly. Follow the doc's orders very carefully. Infection in your head can be very dangerous and painful.
This is not something to cheap out on.

Bonus! I ended up with a fantastic dentist!

Fuck! That sounds terrible.
I can't help you with any advice (I was blessed with good strong teeth) but want to send along my best wishes for a positive outcome.

Cheers

if you have any friends who are doctors or dentists, you should ask them what they would do if they were in your situation

you will get a more comprehensive view or recommendation especially if they call around a bit to their peers

once they pull what's left of the tooth, you have to wait at least 3-6 months, depending on how your bone heals, could take longer

then get the implant put in, takes 1/2 hr maybe

then you need to wait again, til the bone grows/fuses around the implant

can take another 3 months or more, depending on how your jaw bones are

then just a matter of getting the replacement for tooth made and then installed

can take up to a year from start to finish

Personal experience in Mexico. Two friends went and had implants done. One had a perfect recovery, the other ended up with a massive infection and it cost her twice as much to have it dealt with back in Canada. Just sayin.
think I would be concerned about using any medical professional who you did not have some form of recourse if something went wrong

Westwoody, am I understanding correctly that your dentist destroyed your teeth? I hope you’re not getting the work done with the same dentist and I really hope you consider taking him to small claims court.

I used to see a dentist who seemed to have a revolving door of hygienists and junior dentists. I then found out that this lady hired students who were doing their practicums. I had one do a filling and fucked up the tooth so bad I’ve had to have the filling redone like three time because it keeps devolving a gap.

Anyhow, hope it works for you.

I have a friend that had implants done in Costa Rica. A fraction of the Canadian cost. I have been told that some dental plans are happy to help you with the flight etc. as it costs them way less overall.

So, Great dentist, would even put you up in his condo complex while you where have things done. Pooning is legal in CR, so cheap flights, free accommodations, top level escorts about $60USD for the entire evening. Small gifts go a very long way in CR as things are so expensive and the locals don't make much money. They don't have income tax so all imports are highly taxed, so prices are the same as Canada in USD.

Hope it works out for the OP.Dental work in Canada is expensive for even the most basic procedure never mind the really expensive stuff like implants and crowns.I do have a good dental plan and max it out each year.My company switched plan providers
last summer as the provider was going to double the premiums.New provider approved a bridge that the old one would not so I will be getting that done this year along with a crown.

Okay. Be forewarned. I'm going to open up a shit storm here and walk away.

It's okay for you to rag on about providing social benefits for others yet you take the subsidised benefits from your employer who has to contribute into, that your fellow employees contribute into, and they maybe don't draw from because their teeth are good?

You can't suck and blow at the same time.

My dental benefit is my Visa card. I get to pay it off next month.
