I just got one of those parking tickets from Imperial Parking. I was about 15 minutes over my time of 3 hours! They gave me a ticket for $40!!!

Anybody know anything about the rumour I heard that you only have to send them the equivilant of what they would normally charge you at the meter?

you said it yourself ... its rumor

:D

if you will not pay the fine .... with their wireless access to database, they will impound your car if found at ANY IP location in the future. Is it worth it?

What if you change your license plate? My friends and I at the educational institution I attended used to park illegally all the time. 7 was the magic number. Get 7 tickets and they impounded your car... at 6, we used to change our plates and the "problem" would go away. $20 for change the plates sure beat paying 7 tickets + impound fee.

you guys are all morons.

$40. Don't be so cheap and pay the fucking thing.

They will send you to collections and the collections agency will leave a degoritory statement on your credit file. You get too many of these and the banks start denying your requests for CIBC gold cards or what have you. Brian Jessel says "Sure, we'll finance you a car. You'll have to pay 19% tho do to your lousy credit check"

When your mortgage comes up for renewel the bank will say "Well, here's the best we can do.. 3% above prime.. like it or lump it.

But if you don't need all these things, I guess you have the last laugh.

not really....

I use to do loans at a financial institution and we generally shrug off any parking ticket/collection for a measley $250.00. The only thing we look at is if they have ever filed for bankruptcy or defaulted on a loan.

Only suckers pay these tickets. BCTV News/Global did a story on this a couple years ago. They said don't pay the tickets.

Of course don't park at their lots.

Changing your license plate is a good idea (see above).

I know I'm not to bright with these things but isn't it easier to just put a couple of fuckin coins in the dispenser and not steal a parking spot or am I being judgemental again suggesting that it is stealing when you don't pay for something

You're totally correct... and this is what I do now... but this was way back when I was in university and a major rebel ("nobody pays for parking" hahaha)... and the closest parking spots were about a 10 min. walk from the dorms... so sometimes we would park in illegal parking spots at the back... and that's why we got tickets... but now that I'm mature, I always pay for parking and haven't gotten a ticket since... except for this 1 BS time which I may write about in the future.

The ones I feel bad for

are folks like Scubadude who DID pay for parking but was about 15 minutes longer than he anticipated and got a ticket right away. In cases like those where a guy can see someone paid for two or three hours of parking and is 15 minutes over, it would be nice if they used a little discretion.

and how would they know that you are 5-10-15 minutes over, and you did pay for 3 hours. they just pass, see a red flag, and .... write a ticket.

Couple of days ago I got two in a row .... in both instances, I did pay for an hour, and I was there 1.15 and 1.25 .... both times the ticket was already waiting for me. Part of doing business.

(As for them impounding your car if you ever park at anoher Impark lot- I don't know anything about that. Just don't park at their lots I guess.)
It's true (I used to work there). On their little handheld PC's, they keep a "tow list". If you have a certain number of unpaid tickets, your license plate number ends up on the list and they'll tow your ass if they catch you.

Unless it's late at nite in a bad area. They don't want to leave you stranded there, cuz they could liable if you get mugged or raped or something.

Sorry, I was assuming ImPark works the same everywhere. They take a ticket and note the time on it. When they come back they take another ticket and note the time on that. So...they have a rough idea how long someone is over because the time is on the ticket they take as well as the one you are to show through your windshield. If your number is before the first ticket they took you were obviously there before the time they took it.

Also, if tickets are dispensed one per half hour and you have a strip of six on your dash, you paid for three hours.

I never pay parking tickets; eventually the calls go away.. but...

Changing you license plate doesn't get you off the hook. When your new plate gets ticketed, it is entered into Impark's or the City's computer (yes, they have computers too); the very same one they used for your previous plate's infraction. Guess what? The two different plates match the same address and car make. Bingo! The files are merged into one. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to write code to plug that loophole.

Delinquent parking offences are contracted to collection agencies who are paid a "commission" to collect the fine by the city or lot. If they are unsuccessful, the ticket is returned and start to silently stack up against you. If you're a chronic repeat offender (the worst ones are lawyers, btw), eventually there will be enough fines accumulated to warrant pursuing this in the Courts. I heard that magic number was $1,000 at one time, but this may have changed.

If this ever happens to you, the only recourse you then have is to try to negotiate paying $0.50 on the dollar, directly with the City. The City usually settles for that, as their costs and time could well exceed that sum. Someday, I may reach that point, but so far all my past infractions remain unpaid. I usually interrupt the nagging collectors, and tell them I have already donated at the office. They go away eventually.

What amazes me is that the Liberals are not cracking down on them considering they (Impark) are competing with them. Don't try to protest the ticket, just pay it and do your best to avoid their lots. You challenge it, most likely they'll turn it down and charge you more because you didn't pay within 7 days.

Bingo. That's what they do on the lots that use preprinted tickets. Of course the newer machines print tickets with all the important info on them.
