Delinquent parking offences are contracted to collection agencies who are paid a "commission" to collect the fine by the city or lot. If they are unsuccessful, the ticket is returned and start to silently stack up against you. If you're a chronic repeat offender (the worst ones are lawyers, btw), eventually there will be enough fines accumulated to warrant pursuing this in the Courts. I heard that magic number was $1,000 at one time, but this may have changed.

If this ever happens to you, the only recourse you then have is to try to negotiate paying $0.50 on the dollar, directly with the City. The City usually settles for that, as their costs and time could well exceed that sum. Someday, I may reach that point, but so far all my past infractions remain unpaid. I usually interrupt the nagging collectors, and tell them I have already donated at the office. They go away eventually.
Someone told me that the City is hooked into ICBC and they collect unpaid parking tickets upon insurance renewal or insurance is not renewed. Any truth to that?

I'm from Wa State, if I get a ticket how would they pursue me? is it worth their time with the border red tape?

Same thing happened to me a year or so ago. 15 min over the 3 hours and I have a ticket. So I phoned up the number on the receipt to complain. They said fax the ticket receipt, the fine receipt (or whatever you call it), and the explanation. They forgave the fine but said it was a one-time only deal.

So there you go, phone them up, explain it was only 15 minutes over your alloted time, you were just a little late getting back to your car, etc. etc.

You know, that's seems like a damn good idea. Think I'll try giving them a call tomorrow. Perhaps I'll be lucky and get someone with a drop of sense over at ImPark

Check out their website - there is information on how to dispute a ticket. Unless things have changed, you can only dispute a ticket in writing, by mail. When I tried to phone, I waited on hold for an hour only to be told exactly that.

It also says on the website that they will not forgive fines - only reduce them - but that is BS because I have successfully fought two of their tickets and never had to pay the fines.

Impark will tow.

(As for them impounding your car if you ever park at anoher Impark lot- I don't know anything about that. Just don't park at their lots I guess.)
Bad news guys, Impark will tow.

Quite merciless about it. It is the highlight of their job. Send a message to the little guy. So if you ever go overdue at another Impark Parking Lot, it is curtains.

ICBC only goes after fines levelled under the Motor Vehicle Act - speeding, etc... These would surface when you renew your Driver's licence. Parking infractions are City Bylaw contraventions. They do not carry much legal weight - unless you're a chronic offender, and are the reponsibility of the respective municipalities to collect. If you are still delinquent after they take you to Court, they can use other remedies to do so - garnishee, seizure, and all that BS.

I doubt it. These are Bylaws we're talking about, and they don't carry much weight, unless moving vehicle offenses.

Absolutely - change the plates and you are off their radar.

ICBC will not bother you.

My personal favorite is when you park in a lot that is free - say a Safeway and go to the store whatever next door and the little faggot with the tickete thingy nails you - because you are not shopping in Safeway - I almost pumelled some little fucker for that once - best part was that I was on my way into the damn safeway next.

I changed my plates and all my problems went away.... Also, you have to have a certain number of tickets before impark will tow you from what i hear. I got towed once last summer....just paid the tow fine. It used to be that the tow yard would collect all the outstanding fines for impark before releasing your car but they told me that they don't do that anymore.

Here
As for the free lots ie:Safeway, what I do is walk in to the store, go check the price of one item, then leave and go to were you want to go. They are only checking to see if you go into the store. They are not keeping track of people leaving the store, and cross referencing with who went in the store. I do this in Whalley when I go to A&B Sound.

As for gImpark. The bastards. I got a ticket in the L shaped lot at Davie and Burrard, while parking for a pooning assignment. I didn't try to get away without paying, nor did the time expire. I tried to pay, but the damn machine was on the fritz, and wouldn't accept any money. They had a sign for you to pay by phone, but I was in a hurry. I got a ticket. I thought it was about $75, but only $40, if paid within a week. Simplest thing to do was just pay it, and not have any letters or phone calls broadcasting that I was at Burrard and Davie at 1:00AM.
