The thing I think tests the character of a voter is when they aren't completely aligned with a party. Like the Conservatives fiscal ideals but not their social ones? Like the NDP social ideals but not their fiscal ones? Like the Liberals stance but not their actions? When you have to hold your nose and make a choice, what are you willing to sacrifice and what is a deal breaker? Ultimately I think that speaks volumes.

Reminds me of a story my dad told me as a kid. I suspect it's more a parable not something that actually happened, but the story goes that nazis stormed a church and told the parishioners that they were going to shoot the believers. But if you renounced and left, you'd be spared. Some left, some stayed. The last thing those that stayed heard before they were executed was the hail of bullets that took the lives of those who fled.

If you sacrifice principles for self interest, what have you got?

So to those who love everything your chosen party stands for and has done, more power to you. For the rest of us, the question is this: what principles do you stand for and what's "negotiable"?

...these 2 women have set back progress for women in Canadian politics in a signficant way. I suspect that other Canadian political parties have noted what happened and will be much more carefull in the future assigning important portfolios to women . And of course, the recent findings by the ethics committee would never have occurred if Jody Wilson-Raybould had played ball.

JD
Ethics aren't, and shouldn't be gender specific. If you think playing ball, and being a team player means going along with illegal acts, or whatever is best for the team, rather than the country, or people you're supposed to represent, you have a pretty low opinion of male politicians. If your thinking is widespread, it's no wonder we get some of the feeble politicians we have.

At this point I don't know who to vote for. Last election I voted Liberal (and before that, Conservative). Justin Trudeau has been a big disappointment. But I am not impressed with Andrew Scheer. I don't care for holier-than-thou bible thumpers guided by religeous dogma.

Everyone should really expect that the Conservatives will definitely bring the holier than thou, better than you, sexist, white male perspective back to government. No one should forget that Bernier's roots are in Conservatives and many share the same vision for Canada. I would say that within a year Leolist and forums like this will disappear as quickly as Backpage. The moral majority is a powerful lobby group.

A small point I would like to make. How do you post on this thread with the idea of portraying Conservatives by attributing the Policies of Maxime Bernier to Andrew Sheer?A slightly big difference especially considering Bernier got booted out of the caucus and formed his own mini fringe group that will be as succcessfull as the Greens....and more likely less so as I dont see winning as the incumbent.

I predicted the Alberta election in the Spring dead on the money.I had said 3 years ago that the NDP in Alberta would not get a second term.I say this Federal Election delivers a Minority Lieberal Government but not a Majority in any way.For the Conservatives I figure Minority as well as a SLIM Majority. The NDP MP's will be doing what they do best....and that is get re-elected.They are not going to make gains.Same for the Greens...yeah that eco nut job Elizabeth May will most likely get to keep her seat but I highly doubt the Greens will elect more than a token handfull at best.If the Greens and NDP got what they wanted which is Proportional Representation for the Election System they would be far happier.....I am happy that Trudeau did not change the electoral system to make Canadian Elections into Participation Trophy Politics....got 11% of the popular vote and you get 11% of the Seats for MP's.....even though in 95% of the ridings the candidate clearly lost by vote count of the electorate.

I am interpreting that you are saying that in the next Federal election the Liberals get a minoirty OR the Conservatives get a minority OR the Conservatives get a slim majority ??? That is extremely far seeing of you lol. I am going to predict that the sun will rise tormorrow or it will not rise tomorrow.

and then there is reality

the sex laws, for yrs, no one touched them, until they were forced to

abortion, again, nothing for yrs now

same sex marriage, again, no one is going to touch them

for good reason, polls, the majority are fine with them

there is no political upside to it

Sheer, he already has the fringe right, even if they go to Max, which is highly unlikely, and they aren't a majority, they aren't a huge force

if the moral majority was a powerful lobby group, we wouldn't have the laws we've got

you're drinking the leftist lobby's koolaid

the majority of Canadians aren't interested in debating prostitution/abortion/same sex marriage again and again

it's a small fringe, has been for yrs

Harper was there for 10 yrs, nothing, till the courts forced it

Liberals too, they just talk a good game, but in the end do virtually nothing

they know they can't win with that, delude yourself all you want, Sheer/Party is smart enough to know they have to stay oh so very right of center to win
