Tangled web indeed. The sound of it there was a fair bit of deception about what the relationship actually was from the client's perspective which was not reciprocated. Like she was saying the right things to keep him on the hook? It's was a monthly for play fantasy but this sounds like the expectation was more of a relationship.

From the way it is written, I am leaning towards her having to pay back some of the monthly stipend because of the deception about her benefiting financially with a live in partner behind the scenes.

The $1.3 million is mainly connected to a property, so presumably they can put a lien on it.

Putting her on payroll is actually kinda smart. I'm guessing this guy was in a high tax bracket so paying her through the company is kind of like the income sprinkling thing that the government is trying to squash.

I'm sure CRA will be on his case going over his books looking for everything claimed that was non-business related.

Yeah, if he expenses the vacations or whatever, but having her on payroll wouldn't be a violation by itself. People can hire their girlfriends, and the job description could be sufficiently vague. The CRA cares about whether taxes are paid not whether the salary is justified. The only people he'd have to answer to for the salary would be his business partners if he had any.
