I've officially survived my first Hurricane!! I'm currently on Grand Cayman Island. I flew down to Atlanta, GA on Monday night, and then on to Grand Cayman Tuesday morning. We saw the Hurricane warnings from the airport and said, screw it, we're going anyway!! :) Well I can say that I'm glad I did. As of yesterday morning it was a catergory 1, headed right for us, then last night, it changed course. A catergory 4 JUST missing us.

Last night I saw one of the best thunder/lightning storms EVER. I was woken up about 12:30am our time by the thunder. It was still so hot out, the rain just POUNDED down, the lightning lit up the entire beach and the thunder was so loud it hurt my ears. I stood out on the deck until I realized the deck was one big puddle. I'm not totally retarded, so I put on my rubber sandles and went back out. I'm addicted to storms and this was probably my only chance to see one this great so close.

My only regret is not having a video camera for this. I tried using my cell phone to capture the lightning, but it didn't turn out all that great. All you can hear/see on the clip is the rain, the surf coming in on the beach, and quick flashes of light.

I'm definately buying a digi video camera and coming back next year in hopes of another storm.

Holy crap!!

Good to hear that you finally realised your dream to travel abroad, albeit under poor weather conditions. Have fun in the Caribbean and can't wait to see your tan when you get back.

I hope you are not serious about going back in hopes of another storm. You are lucky it missed you. I grew up on the Gulf Coast and have evacuated for many storms and returned to see the devistation. It is not cool at all. I've seen steel twisted like it was rubber, and boats and cars moved more than 2 miles from where they originated - it is not anything to be taken lightly. I have a condo in Destin FL and I just got everything fixed from last year and now Dennis could screw it up...just a risk of owning property there.

If you're referring to having rubber sandals to ground you from lightning strikes, I don't think it's going to help you all that much, that seems to be a common misconception. It's best to get indoors if you want to stay safe.

Have a great time down there and come back in one piece!

Well it seems to be a warm year this year so the Hurricanes are starting early.

thanks for the warning guys. It's all past me now, so there is only wind and rain left.. LOL It was hot and sunny today, rained for an hour, now it's windy. we're expecting thunderstorms each night this weekend. This is awesome, you can still tan during the day, and watch a great storm at night :D it's perfect!
