I've officially survived my first Hurricane!! I'm currently on Grand Cayman Island. I flew down to Atlanta, GA on Monday night, and then on to Grand Cayman Tuesday morning. We saw the Hurricane warnings from the airport and said, screw it, we're going anyway!!
Well I can say that I'm glad I did. As of yesterday morning it was a catergory 1, headed right for us, then last night, it changed course. A catergory 4 JUST missing us.
Last night I saw one of the best thunder/lightning storms EVER. I was woken up about 12:30am our time by the thunder. It was still so hot out, the rain just POUNDED down, the lightning lit up the entire beach and the thunder was so loud it hurt my ears. I stood out on the deck until I realized the deck was one big puddle. I'm not totally retarded, so I put on my rubber sandles and went back out. I'm addicted to storms and this was probably my only chance to see one this great so close.
My only regret is not having a video camera for this. I tried using my cell phone to capture the lightning, but it didn't turn out all that great. All you can hear/see on the clip is the rain, the surf coming in on the beach, and quick flashes of light.
I'm definately buying a digi video camera and coming back next year in hopes of another storm.
