Not because of recognition internationally, but because they serve the largest market in the world predominantly - China.

Huawei gets by by making cheaper phones than Apple, which is an aspirationaly brand. Those who can't afford Apple buy Huawei in China.

Huawei is only 2 - 3% in North America in terms of Market share. In terms of being an international competitor, they have a long ways to go.

Also, Huawei phones have amazing cameras, I'm surprised people here go gaga over the new Google phone. If they hold a Huawei flagship, it beats the Google and iPhone cameras out of the water.
Can't speak for Huawei; but if I owned a company that in relatively short order took the number 2 spot from a behemoth like Apple, who cares about international recognition. Lol! They are in it for profit!

Foxconn manufactures for Apple, BlackBerry, Nokia, Dell, Google, Microsoft, Intel and others. It has a plant in Shenzhen China that has ~ 450,000 employees. Likely at least 2 are harvesting intellectual property.

When I was in China, my translator referred to iPhones as kiddy phones, you had to sell a kiddy (KIDNEY) to afford one.

The Huawei P30 Pro is the top rated smart phone on the market with by far the best camera (no other phone camera is even competitive) and it's offered at an attractive price. American and European tech are so uncompetitive that their only strategy to compete is to fear monger about Huawei's security and privacy - like no one has heard of or remembers the Patriot Act, Snowden, Facebook, Google, WhatsApp or NSO? They are such hypocrites because continually revelations suggest that there actually is no security or privacy online.

Even beyond cellphones, all the Canadian mobile networks want to work with Huawei to build their 5G networks because of Huawei's price point. All the noise is desperate rhetoric.

My take on " made in China" is when I buy equipment that will put my life at risk.
One example I remind myself constantly of ,is a 6 ton Jack I bought.....lifted my tractor up with a Chinese Jack that had inferior parts within it.
It held for about 3 to 5 minutes and let go....8000 pounds came down in a real hurry.
.....and I could have been underneath that machine, as it turned out I just got a loose tire to my forehead, so no harm done.

But again, buying a Huawei product rewards their dishonesty in how they acquired their technology and the Chinese government for helping them to acquire that technology via espionage. It is no coincidence that the Chinese government has taken it so personally when Canada arrested a Huawei employee, they likely have a lot invested in Huawei.

It reminds me of a time when "Made in Japan" meant cheap and unreliable. Even early models of Japanese vehicles that made their way out of Japan were very problematic. They were very relatively cheap which is why people here in North America bought them, as well as being relatively miserly in regards to gas usage during a time when gas prices rose very quickly. I wonder how many people on this site know that a particular Japanese manufacturer's vehicles gained such a reputation as being rust buckets that they eventually were forced to rebrand form "Datsun" to "Nissan". Having said that, some of those early Datsun's, like the 240Z, were quite stylish.

How are you even surprised at this? I would suggest that many software or hardware companies are spying on you one way or the other. Add to that the Patriot Act and you can almost guarantee it in some instances. However, the Chinese are consistently being associated with Cyber Espionage. Prime example is Lenovo.

Is Lenovo a security risk? Old concerns resurface as trade war heats up.

4 Security Reasons Why You Should Avoid Lenovo PCs

We going to start boycotting ThinkPads?

Personally I think it is the Wild Wild West in the Tech World, with advances in Cyber Espionage being introduced and developed faster than the Security Practices by an ever increasing margin. I do not think it is going to matter in the future what device, where manufactured, Operating System ............. as Governments fight to control Security and the Internet.

Oh and back to topic, my spare phone is a Huawei and it rocks.

The Truth is Out There

All of this Huawei controversy starting in the USA has a trickle down effect to other Nato or Five Eyes nations.

In Canada, Rogers removed all of their Ericsson base stations a few years ago to replace them all with Huawei base stations after doing a massive national upgrade to LTE. Ericsson had been the vendor of choice since Rogers first roll out in the 1980's. The new CEO of Rogers came from Telus who also removed their Qualcomm based technology to use Huawei. Bell Mobility is the same.

All three of the majors doing massive upgrades to new Huawei equipment was extremely expensive and we the users are paying for it.

Now in the USA they are moving away from all Huawei as are Australia and New Zealand. UK, Germany and France have not banned Huawei and Canada is still considering its options.

I've tried very hard not to buy US made goods because of the BS from the Narcissist in Chief.

Now China is on the same list because of how they are treating Canadians who are legitimately on biz in China.

I sure hope my iPhone doesn't die!
It's a nightmare that will pass shortly, well, I hope it does. But seems like Con=ald Chump is going to be back for another term. In fact, I am sure he will try to rewrite the legislature that a president can't serve more than two terms.

I have hated Republican presidents a lot, but seriously, this one is just beyond repulsive. Not just on political but at social, human, sexual and every other level. Sometimes I know US people brought it upon themselves, but sad part is that rest of the world is suffering.

Thank god Hillary Clinton never got in or your delusions about Trump would have become a reality.
