Hello Health Nurse, I'm a first time poster.

I'm a middle aged man with good health and I think I've noticed an increase recently in the amount of pre-cum I produce prior to an orgasm. How much is normal and could this be a symptom of something? Also with this, slightly more difficulty recently in holding off an orgasm.

I've always thought that pre-cum is one of nature's ways of helping the lady become nicely lubricated and I wouldn't normally consider it a problem, but I'd like to know for sure.

Thanks!

Hi Playtime Boi

Pre-cum or pre-ejaculate is mainly produced by the Cowper glands. It is a clear mucoid fluid that is produced when you get sexually excited.

It is normal to have this fluid and they believe that it helps with lubrication during sex, as well as making the urethra have the best environment for the ejaculate.

In regard to pre-cum there is a wide variation of normal. Some men do not produce any, some a few drops and some can do more than 5ml.

I don’t know if you having more pre-cum and difficulty holding off an orgasm is a symptom of something else. It’s possible you could just be more sexually excited than normal.

If you feel that it is something that is bothering you I would suggest seeing your family doctor for a check up and explaining the symptoms to them.
