Thanks for the replies everybody! Lots of good peace-of-mind info here. Out of curiosity, what are some hypotheticals in which an arrest can be made after the fact. I mean, unless there were cameras and microphones in the room, and you handed the SP the money and said "here, this is for sex", how can it be proven that anything illegal occurred? Even if it's found that explicit text messages/emails were exchanged (and, to my my understanding, a wiretap warrant would be needed for this), couldn't you just argue that you were doing research for a paper or something?

Did you freak out a bit when he said he was a cop?
Not at all. I had seen him before. I am rarely surprised with what people feel comfortable sharing with me whether it's their profession or life status and I take it as a great honour to be their confidant.

Doctors, lawyers, police officers, finance professionals are just a few of my repeat clientele. The stigma surrounding those who pay for sex blanketing them as _____ (whatever derogatory term you choose to fill the gap with) is very close-minded. All sentient beings need care and touch no matter what their status or profession.

To the OP: relax.

I agree that the stigma that society has put on men for paying SPs for sex is quite sad and close minded.
Not all clients are unattractive , socially awkward , losers or lowlifes.

For me I am single and not looking to pursue a relationship at this time so seeing an SP with no strings attached works well for me and is much safer than picking up a one night stand a local bar.

I had a client who is a police officer the other day... As he explained it escorts are of very little concern to the police here. Trafficking and under age working ladies/men would be their focus. They have more important things to do than bust two (or more) consenting adults.

You saying what your saying goes further than others who posted on this thread. Better to hear it from the horses mouth than textbook. Just because it's written doesn't mean ----100% that follow through will be applied.

There is a shit load of things in our lives that are written around us and follow up never occurs. However, regarding this industry, underage or illegal immigration, rape murder......that's a whole and crucial ball game. THAT, WILL REQUIRE ACTION. As Claire's client ( officer ) said to her, major priorities come first. 2 consenting adults having a little play fun.....hardly pursuing imo. That was also mentioned in news articles. Especially in dt vancouver.

Has anyone known anyone who has been busted :deadhorse:??

I'm going to be honest: I'm starting to feel like we're being trolled but I will address this in the spirit of giving the OP the benefit of the doubt.

hooboy has yet to post where in Canada he may or may not be engaging the services of an SP. Many of the replies have come from those of us relaying information from a Vancouver perspective. But, again, if anyone takes the time to read through reverdy's media thread, they'll find numerous reports of arrests and charges from around the country where the new laws have been enforced.

That's no longer hypothetical, theoretical or speculative. The laws have been and are being enforced and people are being arrested and charged.

As for us in Vancouver, before the crash, susi had posted a thread that was titled "attack on poonatopia" or something similar about a campaign by abolitionist types to convince local LE to start enforcing those laws -- or at least I think that was the gist of it. I tried to find the thread through google's cache but had no luck. Hopefully, susi can repost it.

Not trolling. Just genuinely ignorant. I haven't had time yet to read through that thread as it's pretty massive. I'm hoping to do so tonight. I live in Winnipeg.

Fair enough. If you're in Winnipeg then you do indeed need to be more cautious. Best of luck to you :)

Hooboy, too bad you're so far away! I'd love to set you at ease here in Vancouver.

MM has a good point... I feel completely safe (regarding the law; not completely against some crazy people out there, though I've only ever had 2 bad experiences and that was due to being young and green to the profession) working in Vancouver. I'm not up to speed with what other cities are imposing as far as law enforcement.

I hope it all works out for you, hooboy!

i did a quick search for "winnipeg" in that thread and while a couple article do show up, they are, as most seem to be, very vague in what actually happened. One of the articles states that 10 men were arrested and 22 SP's interviewed, but fails to mention why or how the arrests came about. Which brings me to my previous question, how is it possible for arrests to be made after the fact?

Hypothetical scenario:

You text message well-reviewed touring SP telling her you're interested in seeing her for a massage and inquire about her rates. She responds with with her rates and what the time includes (using suggestive acronyms). You then ask if she'd be available for the massage at such and such a time, and you agree to meet up. You meet up, yadda yadda yadda, everything goes well, you leave.

Any issues here?

not an expert by any means

but a few rules of thumb seem to follow,
underage, strolls or trick pads were unlicensed or trafficked girls and or underage might be.

you stay clear of those you should be all right.

should be nothing is 100 percent.

if I understand the new rules the girls are more of a victim now days, and the men are the perps

Read the actual bill C36.
The bill uses very clear precise language.
Nobody, male or female, can offer anything of value in exchange for any sexual service. This is defined as "Commodification of sexual services".
Any person, male or female, can offer THEIR OWN sexual services in exchange for consideration.
So...it is legal to SELL or offer to sell.
It is not legal to buy or offer to buy.
And nobody can act as an agent or middleman.

ENTRAPMENT by police is illegal in Canada, & is cause for dismissal by a judge when it is found to have occurred.
First off, it's not what you know, it's what you can prove.

Secondly, even if any charges brought against you don't stick, there is the potential for embarrassment (and other problems) your arrest will cause your family and/or your employer. Once you're in the police database as a john, that follows you wherever you go especially if travelling to the USA or overseas.

Finally, the risk is always much greater at a commercial establishment than in a private residence.

I agree with you with the exception of the following:

If a police officer sees you (or any SP) and then goes to work the next day and arrests some poor schmuck for doing exactly the same thing (thereby creating enormous personal, legal and financial problems) I would label him as a massive fucking hypocrite.

Thanks west. I'm pretty clear on what the bill entails. My confusion is with how guys are getting busted (if they actually are getting busted for this) after it happens. I understand being caught in a sting beforehand, whereby there's an undercover cop. But what procedures is LE using to nab them days afterwards? It seems like the case for being at a bawdy house is pretty flimsy if no indecent acts (as it's defined) are taking place. And since selling sex is legal, are they really going after the escorts, getting search warrants, and going through their message histories? And even if that's the case, from what i can gather the John has to literally say something along the lines of "i wish to purchase your sexual services in exchange for money." It just seems like an extremely difficult thing to actually be charged for, so i wonder how many of the charges you hear about (particularly the ones that happen in Winnipeg) actually stick?

If a specific place is deemed a bawdy house and you are in it then you are guilty. Period.
Lots of guys say stupid things in clear text or spoken conversation. Offering $$$ for a service is evidence enough for conviction under C36.
Harper's lackey Vic Toews, the bible thumping hypocrite, tried to pass legislation allowing LE warrantless access to all text and email.
It is possible an escort's phone could be seized so her texts could be examined.

on yer ignore list
also, if a woman is offered the choice of being thrown in jail and deported, or ratting you out and getting canadian papers and enough money to get a fresh start, which do you think she will choose? which evidence will the judge choose to give credit? these are all questions you have to determine for yourself and make your own personal decision accordingly

i agree that the media coverage is big on the arrest data, but non-existant on the follow-up data. that's a big fault with our yellow journalists

how is a place deemed a bawdy house? from what I can make of it; prostitution is no longer considered an indecent act, so unless what defines an "indecent act" is taking place, there's nothing illegal happening (such as in a regular hotel-room incall.) No? And can you refer back to the example of an interaction i gave on the previous page. Would this be considered solicitation even if you indicate you're only interested in a massage (or time) and the SP is the one who details the sexual acts?

hey guys, so the local abolitionists are trying to force vancouver city staff and police to enforce bill c-36 through their campaign..."make vancouver a john free zone"

it will not be an issue, city staff and LE here are our allies and have both committed to not enforce this ridiculous law. our groups have been actively reaching out to warn the city and police about this new attempt to undermine our safety and are assuring them they are still doing the right thing....not enforcing.

this only applies to the city of vancouver proper...not burnaby or any other part of the lower mainland.

so, inside the city here the activities of 2(or more) consenting adults, remain a non priority for LE and city staff.

the news of arrests across canada based on this new law are really upsetting....i did try to help other areas do the things we did here but i think vancouver is really just unique and that the case of the missing women made our city understand that the arrest and reform method was not only not working, but was killing people as well.

anyway, the best advice is to listen to your instincts...if it seems dodgy....chances are ...it probably is....

love susie

ps- i will update people about the feminazi march and what if any impact it has.

Vancouver LE is Vancouver PD, while the RCM P have jurisdiction in Richmond, Burnaby and Coquitlam, Surrey and most other parts of Canada.

So I was just reading what some one said B36 said.."that it us legal to sell or offer sexual service for money but illegal to offer to buy sexual services."

As I understand that the it would mean if an escort said to me . :you can have sex with me for$200 " and I say "sure" And pay her .Then I have not broken any law because I did not offer or ask to buy sex from her.
As long as long as the escort is the instigator on offering sexual services and sayING what she offers and the price ..Then the john is not guilty of an offernce under the law.
It is a very small point but the only thing that make sense.
