How about them Canucks?

It's a long season and we're at what 1/4 or it? Just hope they win well more than they lose, and make those playoffs. Considering where they've been previously, that is far from guaranteed, even with their record so far this season.

Well, that's the worry. The dreaded New year swoon, or all-star break deflation. Momentum-killing many times before.

There are so many challenges that come at you during the season. Every team deals with it. Injuries being the biggest one. Have they got the depth to deal with Hughes, Miller, Pettersson being out for any extended period of time? I like the approach Tocchet has been taking. He has been downplaying player statistics without actually coming out and saying it. If you read between the lines he is basically saying statistics are for losers. If you have three players in the top ten of scoring you are relying too much on those three players. Case in point the Oilers. You need to have depth all throughout your lineup, everyone work hard, and have two decent goaltenders to sustain your season if you want to have a reasonable chance at success in the long run. But that doesn’t always mean you will win the Cup. Case in point, the Bruins.

53 years of losing it takes more than a good season to win the cup. Look at the Bruins last year, but everyone has a dream.

Well I admit last year I wanted Boeser out of here asap. Great to see he’s been on fire the first half of the season! Nice to be wrong 😑.

I think Tocchet has their attention this year.
I'll also admit that I felt we needed to move on from Boeser. And Garland. And at one point, they both wanted out as well. Now they both want to stay and the fanbase wants them to stay. Funny how some success does a 180 on everything.

I'm just hoping to make the playoffs this year. Not going to count chickens before they hatch.

It's true. There is an almost-superstition in this fan base about never praising the team too much, like turning praise for a job well done might turn into hype, and hype (hubris) brings the wrath of the hockey gods.
Truth is, the season is very long (and full of breaks that seem to kill momentum), and that plus the post-season takes a hell of a toll. You want your best to be playing their best, but at the right time of year, and always to remain healthy.
Stats have their place, but cups are won by the intangibles of depth, guts, and a generous helping of good fortune. So many teams can soar in the regular season stats only to crash out hard at crunch time. Talent at a roster level takes years to build, but the game is one where once someone's talent is a known quantity, other teams immediately start finding ways to counter it. (Sometimes dirty ways, let's be honest.) No team wants to be loaded up with guys who are talentless, but I think being the league's best player on the league's worst team is not the sort of paradox any player wants to experience either.

Well they survived the 2 week road trip and will be off again on long road trip soon. Good to see they played fairly well and won more than lost. Only one that bugged me was they didn’t show up for the Bruins game.

When I heard they are looking at Phil Kessel it made me wonder if he would make a difference. Even in his younger days he wasn’t known for being in top shape. He is a sniper but rarely plays both ends of the rink. Besides the news on his skating was he was gassed and bent over when working out in Abbotsford. Still the guy has 4 Stanley Cup rings and that’s experience you can bank on.

Canucks have done well with the recent trade with Calgary and Lindholm. Great asset if we can keep him before free agency.

On the trade deadline I’m hoping they get another D man. Forwards are flush but the D may need another piece. Remembering past playoff runs the Canucks were a bit thin on D men as playoffs went on.

Rutherford has been green lighted by ownership to do what’s needed to go deep in the playoffs. Only problem may be the cap hit unless the trade partner eats some of the salary.

Winnipeg tomorrow night should be a great game. Jets are playing tough hockey and will be playoff bound too.

Rumormill has lindholm looking for 8-9mill on his next deal, doubt he gets that from us.... Why not make a run for Guentzel since the pens won't be able to trade him now he's hurt before deadline and risk losing him for free.... He's got connections with Rutherford already

Defense is actually pretty solid, would be great to add another piece but with Soucy coming back, will have some solid pieces on the back end.... Keep Zadorav and his physicality for the playoffs, not afraid to throw his weight or hands

I think Kessel has 3 SC rings, 2 with Pittsburgh as an active contributor, the one last spring for being a good clubhouse, locker room presence after
dressing for 4 games in the 1st round.

maybe he can help the power play?
I have to wonder if he can keep up with the play now?

10-7 loss to Minnesota.
Touchdown and field goal beats a Touchdown!

Score 7 goals and lose?
That's not easy!
