Anyone had any experience with having custom car audio installed in Vancouver? I'm looking into getting a system and it seems the more I look, the more confusing it becomes for me. I think I may have it nailed down to an all-Alpine set-up...
Any input would be appreciated.
Also, where would ya recommend looking to buy the system? Who does good custom installs? Specifically stealth installs...

Yo fuzzy couple Q's

Are you going just audio, or DVD too??

Killer system with lights, fiberglass enclosures, multiple subs and amps??

A bit more simple: 1 sub, 1 amp and run the speakers off the head-unit.

What is your age?? Sorry if it seems rather personal, but I noticed on my truck and my daily driver car, while no means great the stock stereo's are good enough as I seem to have lost interest in music to a certain degree in the car. The news and Rock 101 when on the track seem to suit me fine. But surely I don't need a thousand watts and 4 15" subs for that.

My hobby car has a bit better shit, but that was because when I got it, it had nothing.

New head unit, looking at mp3/ipod/sat-radio compatible, new components up front, likely a single 10" in the rear which will require a custom fibreglass enclosure for the install I'm after, with a couple amps to run the thing. Head unit will run only the rears. Amp options are either a single 4-channel with two channels bridged for the sub, or 2 seperate amps, one for the fronts and a mono for the sub. Nothing insane. I did the "4-15" subs and 1000 watts" thing when I was younger. Now I'm after good sound, not drawing attention. The stock unit is good, but just isn't cutting it for me.
Movies in a car seem like a total fuckin waste to me, unless ya got kiddlins, so no to that.

I have had many high-end systems in my vehicles , and have also had many friends with them. First thing I'll mention is Alpine. Every alpine deck I have ever seen in either my own or a friends vehicle has had major problems. They are also notorious for skipping especially on burnt cds. Alpine does have good amplifiers and speakers though, I still use their DDDrive mids/tweets in my car.
Sony is in th e same boat, I'll take a Sony camera or video cam over any other brand but will never anything with the sony name in my car. From what I have seen, pure trash.
So far my preferances are Kenwood/Clarion/Panasonic decks. I had a kenwood Excelon deck in my truck(off-roader) and it still works awesome to this day on or off-road, and only skips if u have ran a cd through a meat grinder. The only reason it was replaced was to upgrade to a dvd/MP3/WMA..... deck, Kenwood also. The new Kenwood is modular, so u can add whatever u like to it, gps nav, sat radio, just about anything although a lil on the pricey side

For Speakers I have been through so many its not funny, the alpine DDDrives still pump, JbL are good but only in the high end, JL are a good all around speaker no problems and are still what runs in both my vehicles.
Amplifiers are what really makes a system. In my first system I had a 300watt amp running my bazooka tubes. They sounded good and were fairly load. One day that amp fried so I went to the store and was talked into a Rockford Fosgate 2 channel-60watt amp. I even told the salesman theres no way that amp was going to power my subs comparably to the old 300watter. Was I wrong, the 60watt RF amp was a way cleaner sound, and was actually able to push the tubes louder then the old amp because of this. This amp was also th size of 2 pieces of bread. Lesson learned, bigger numbers does not always mean better.

Here here!!! On the Sony. Great deck with tons of features on the hi-end models, but the break down rate is unacceptable IMO. Couple Sony decks I had that I paid over 600 bones for....by the end of 3 yrs the thing was fukking up so bad I just bought a new one.

The Rockford amps and Boston Acoustic speakers I had were top notch performers.

Thanx for the input. I'm a bit surprised to hear dafunk's take on alpine decks. Since I can remember, they have been the benchmark by which other decks were measured. As of this moment, I had nailed my new system to all Alpine, head unit , 6 1/2" components up front, 4-channel amp. The sub is JL 10".
Maybe I should reconsider the head unit? They had a Clarion there that caught my eye.

As I was growing up Alpine was the best of the best. Till cd's came out. Every single Alpine cd deck I have every had and every one any of my friends have every had have been total bunk. They skip, they have a very hard time with burnt cd's, they just crap out. I suggest u look for a different deck, all the money I've wasted buying Alpine junk I wish I had known what I do now.
