Heros

Funny, before I started this thread I searched the word HERO and you know what was one of the things to come up?

This thread about Lance Armstrong. https://perb.cc/vbulletin/showthread.php?171854-USADA-to-ban-Armstrong-for-life-strip-all-7-Tour-de-France-titles&highlight=lance+armstrong. I was a believer and my poor little heart broke in a million pieces when the truth came to light.

Hero has a lot of definitions and therefore means something different to everyone. According to Webster`s:

This video is what made me think about heros and how it can have a different meaning for everyone.

From the Warm & Fuzzy thread:
I enjoyed the video, but I don't know that the raccoon is "gutsy", a raccoon will rip a cat apart in a confrontation.

I saved a neighbour's Siamese from a raccoon few years ago, a case where curiosity would, indeed, have killed the cat.
grusse, you're my hero...that is so, so sweet!!! And manly!!

Stephen Harper is a HERO - to some, not me, but some. And how long would it take for him, and the next of his ilk, to create what luckydick has shown us in the video. That is some fucked up shit. Amehrikaka

Some one said this, I can't remember where I read this,

In a given moment, any one can be a hero, even criminals and murder's have been know to run into a burning building to rescue someone or even a pet.

A real hero is some one who lives his entire life or a major portion of his life in service to and for others.

I think a hero is some one who shuns a way from the spot light does not do anything for glory or fame.

Most hero's I think prefer to fade away and are uncomfortable in fame.

In my man cave, I have a few collectables and stuff about a guy that were given to me as presents.

I had a chance to meet my hero a few years ago, but didn't want to, in case he didn't live up to the hype or my idea of him.

Are hero's ever as big as we make them out to be?

Terry Fox is a hero:thumb:
I could not agree more, luvsdaty. He has been my personal hero ever since I was young. You see, my mother was one of his nurses at the BC Cancer Agency after his amputation. She witnessed his transformation from arrogant angry bitter young athlete to someone determined to chance not only his own circumstances but that of every cancer patient. The metamorphosis came about as a result of him meeting younger sicker cancer patients who were not only determined to survive, but to thrive. Those little kids were HIS heroes, and he set out to make their lives better. For the rest of my life, I will remember watching on tv and crying with my mother when Terry announced he could not finish his run because his cancer had metastasized to his lungs...His original fundraising goal was a dollar for every Canadian. To date, Terry Fox Runs worldwide have raised more than HALF A BILLION dollars for cancer research.

A few years back, a tradesman in my home to do some work told me an offensive 'joke' that I won't repeat other than to say it compared Terry Fox to one of the most hideously evil human beings ever spawned. I ordered him out of my home, called the company to complain and had that employee fired.

Terry Fox is an interesting case. I think he was really stupid. He was just asking for a reoccurrence of the cancer. Putting that stain on his body . He would have served himself better if he carried on with a normal life.

haha Great post.

He knew the risk.
He was just a normal guy who did something selfless.
I don't think that makes him stupid.
I'm not much for hero worship, but to me he's the quintessential Canadian.
Tough, stubborn, giving.

Shannon Lorio crashed her car on a rural road in Georgia. Her life was in danger, but she received help from an unlikely hero. As she lay in her wrecked vehicle, a stray dog approached from out of the woods and came to her aid.

The dog kept her awake and pulled her out of the car, dragging her over 100 feet back to the road. She was able to flag down a passing car before she collapsed unconscious.

After saving Shannon's life in 2010, the stray dog was taken to the Humane Society where he was adopted by canine search and rescue trainer Heidy Drawdy. He was appropriately named Hero.

In the video below, Shannon recounts the events around her rescue by Hero that fateful day.

highly disagree with your comment there retriever.

to do a selfless act as he did is far from being stupid.
TF is exactly the definition of 'hero', to think of others welfare besides his own.

I'm sure he knew the risk going in and I wonder how many of us would have done
what he did? raise awareness, raised millions to help others and searching for a cure…
how can you call TF stupid? you ought to look in the mirror before saying
something moronic like that. tsk, tsk.

He would have served himself better if he carried on with a normal life.
But isn't that just the point? He wasn't trying to serve himself, he sacrificed for the sake of others and that is what makes him a hero. And to call that "really stupid " shows that you don't understand that concept at all.
