Nope. They were as reasonable and open-minded as any of the good Christian folk I grew up around. They had the same kinds of hopes and worries as everyone else. They took their jobs seriously. They were good company to drink with on Friday nights. The idea there is some monolithic force of MUSLIMS with identical extremist aims is pure and utter bullshit created by the fear industry that you obviously subscribe to. I was treated more politely and welcomed into the town in a way that would never happen in Kapuscasing, say. There were brief "troubles" between a Christian neighbourhood and fundamentalist Muslims in one of the cities during the time I lived there, but accurate accounts were hard to come by. I never witnessed an act of violence. So Hank, we take it that your two-year experience amongst the Muslim population did not include acquainting yourself with any of the Islamofascists (at least that you know of) whose promise of violence never did affect you personally.
In recent decades, I recall terrorist bombings by Christian White Separatists that killed hundreds of people in Kansas, Fundamentalist Christian cults killing themselves and their children, Sikhs methodically bombing Air India planes, two tribes of Christians in Rwanda massacreing each other, Tamils vs. Buddhist Sri Lankans. There are atrocities committed by every group and religion -- Moslems have no exclusive claims to barbarism. And other than a two-decade spate of suicide bombings against the western world and towards other Muslims with whom these Islamofascists disagree and the promise that all earthly "Shaheeds" will be rewarded in an afterlife, you state that they are all like the rest of us. Good pseudo-liberal thinking, Hank. Another illustration of how the West will be lost!
So they were about as Muslim as the jews who eat bacon double cheeseburgers are jewish, right? They were good company to drink with on Friday nights.
Yep -- that's what I'm saying. Or as Christian as the hate-spewing evangelists like Jerry Falwell. Just saying that people -- including Muslims -- do not fit into a neat package. They would go to mosque during the day on Fridays, too. Or more specifically, just like the average self-identified Christians here who do not let it rule every aspact of their lives. So they were about as Muslim as the jews who eat bacon double cheeseburgers are jewish, right?
"As Muslim as Obama" is an expression that I hear often to describe non-practicing muslims.

Of course there are problems with Fundamentalists of all kinds. We need to guard against them. Where we live, I am more worried about Christo-fascists that have an actual influence over how I am allowed to live my life.
Glad to see someone has experienced other cultures and has perspective. This is sadly lacking in some of the posters here.Yep -- that's what I'm saying. There are facists everywhere. And the media loves to show them on TV, so people watch their soap commercials. Politicians exploit this to the extreme, fear is everywhere. And they get money from us without protest.

How to get along with women, as explained by my 6 sisters

3. If more than 1 woman tells you what to do, sisters are the one to obey
I know that this has simplified my life tremendously
I never said it was in the Mideast; I just said in a Muslim society (which ranges from Indonesia to Senegal). The point was that all issues are personal, and that demonizing any group always leads to bad things. If I was an Iraqi, a Pakistani, an Iranian, an Afghan, etc., it would be a huge daily concern (but which I couldn't do much about). In North America, it is pretty low on my list of priorities. We are not going to be dominated by Islamic invaders, It is, however, a very handy issue for the fear-mongering socialist-funded military-industrial-political complex to divert us from our own problems and keep their profits soaring. While Hank Quinlan has had many good experiences in the Mideast amongst Muslims, this personalizes the issue too much.
Quotes from Wikipidia. Concerning the LDS oath of vengeance, that sounds a lot like Jihad:I have never heard of members of the Church of Latter Day Saints ever advocating violent domination of non-Mormons nor terrorist acts of any kind whatsoever, "PeaceGuy". In fact, that would be absolutely against the Church's principle. As to the "true way", many religions and religious leaders believe that they possess the "true way". If you don't like what these respective religions propose, stay away.
