That’s not what I meant. For work purposes, if you don’t utilize AI compare to people that does, your productivity level will be a lot lower. AI is being embedded in almost everything, then here comes automations as well which is arguably making the gap even wider.

The term AI sure gets tossed around a LOT. Kinda like Quantum ... as if folks even have the faintest idea what it is.
So all these AI comments - are you referring to using an Agent like Claude, a chatbot like ChatGBT, machine learning as in Alexa like devices and on and on.
Me? I am shutting of Gemini and Co-Pilot whenever they pop up. For some things an agent is fine, to have it in my face all the time is invasive, and not needed. I know how to write how to create a useful database and how to work Excel, so really, fuck off. Further I do not recall ever explicitly giving various software companies the right to use my shit for their training purposes so again, fuck off.
Onto useful at work, I have a guy who is pretty good at coding etc, uses Claude on a lot of the research data looking for patterns etc. Savings are marginal but for a purpose like that its good. If we did not have it, its not a deal breaker.

I guess the closest I am to "using" AI is the search feature on Brave browser. It's more like having a conversation, but you need to be pretty specific about your questions. It'll give you the most popular answer based on the info it searches. This can lead to some pretty deep rabbit holes! I usually include "ignore popular" or "what is the most direct way to . . . " in my questions. The results are more concise.
I think what is happening with AI, its only a very sophisticated algorithm that is using your answers to gain data for how people respond to things.. So its in it gathering of information state....You are going to have to wait for more faster quantum computers to make a true AI. But what is out there right now is scary....
The simple responses of some of these systems is almost human like, but computers are quicker than humans for processing stuff. For me I have to think about adding numbers up, while a computer with number input its done very fast... faster then my simple brain... and that is scary....
I think the fastest way to kill the human race is to let AI fight wars with weapons, because its quicker to respond to threats... The moment people are out of the loop is the time humans have become obsolete...which we also might be already...

AI has been catastrophic in the education field. Especially true in post secondary education.
I teach at a local college here in the lower mainland. I teach coding. My students are very obviously using AI to complete their assignments. I know this because previously, if 50 students submitted a coding solution, I would get 50 different solutions. Now I am lucky to get 5 different solutions. My school of course doesn't endorse this type of cheating or plagiarism but it doesn't want to deal with thousands of plagiarism allegations each semester and has therefore told us instructors to basically turn a blind eye to the obvious cheating.
It would be ok, but the exams are written on campus without access to a computer and it's very clear from the results that students are not learning to actually write code. They pass anyway because exams are only worth a minimal percentage of the total course mark. The school's way of making sure the failure rate is not too high.
Some of you will no doubt argue that these students, when they graduate, will need to use AI at any job they may start work at. And that is definitely true. But if they can only use AI to create code, how will they be able find errors in the AI generated code? How will they pass an interview where they are asked to write code on a white board or some equivalent interview test where they will not be able to make use of any AI tools? Or as I tell my students, if all you have learned after 4 years of schooling is how to use AI to generate code, why wouldn't a company just hire students directly from high school and give them a 3 month course on the use of AI?
If you do an AI search for "use of AI outlawed at some major US law schools" you will find that some of the more reputable law schools in the US are beginning to try to confirm that students have actually learned the topics and gained the critical thinking skills they were meant to be developing in school. They do that by restricting the use of AI and are returning to pen and paper exams. Many post secondary schools in both Canada and the US are doing the same.
I expect this huge issue, in regards to the use of AI, to be in the news more and more as time goes on.
