Had a message left on my phone by one if those robot voice callers.
It said there was a law suit filled against me and I need to phone a certain number right away or there would be mutable arrest warrant issued for me and I would be put in jail. They did not even have my name.
I had to laugh.

I know people have been caught by this shit and actually believe what they tell them when they phone.

But really people have to be fucken stupid to first off think that some thing like a notice of a law suit would be sent in a robot voice mail. No official material is sent that way. And next laws suits are civil matter , not criminal so there are no arrest warrant to get you there or after they are decided..just more civil acction.

Question is should I go to the police and give them the number they told me to call. Would they ve interested

Yea and that number you suppose to call is most likely long distance and once you call they got you and you paying very high long distance charges so much bs out there... revenue agency calls etc. They talked about this on global news hour recently. Police not sure they can do much as usually it is overseas set ups

And they get elderly people with it all the time.
But I never understood how people fall for B.S.. unless they have a guilty conscious.
If you know there is nothing out there that can bit you in the ass or really don't care then what are you a fraid of.
And If you payed your taxes why would you think the man would come after you with phone calls and threats..
Usually you gets lot of lettered and time to act of something is required.

But I know the older you get ( But not just the old) THE MORE Your MENTAL FACULTIES Are off.
And you get fearful of losing everything.
With me I have lost all lost.allmost every .even alot of my health . So not to much they can threaten with.

CRA scammer has been busy lately.

Caller ID shows a 613 Ottawa area code but the actual number is like 20 digits and alpha characters long.

CRA sends letters, not computerized phone messages.

So many things blatantly wrong with that scam. People don't get arrested for lawsuits. Messages would not be left on answering machines. My damned dentist won't even give details until they're sure they're talking to the right person.

Sometimes I fantasise about answering one of these calls and it being a live person, and after their spiel saying, "I just have one question: who am I?" but then I remember I have better things to do.

(If anyone ever starts a call with "who am I speaking with?" I reply "who do you want to be speaking with?")

I've reported scam calls, to both the RCMP and Canadian anti-fraud centre. They give you a bit of a run-around, but someone has to let them know, right?
The thing is, if you haven't lost money (because you didn't fall for it), there is not much they can / will do, except I guess they take note of the number (etc.), and put out alerts.

It's the same scam technique - frighten people, then pounce on them for money while keeping them panicked. Probably the same crooks over and over again.

It's not just the elderly who are susceptible, my son in his twenty's received a call from "cra" threatening him with legal action. He just so happened to call me because I used to do his taxes, he was concerned there was something to worry about. He was surprised when I told him it was a scam and ignore it.

me and my mom both get texts from someone claiming to be RBC, and to me they said something is wrong with your online banking, click on this link blah blah...Now I do have some business with RBC and my mom sort of does too, so I went to my online banking and everything seemed fine. I didn't click on the link of course. Neither did my mom.

What numbers do you call for the RCMP and Canadian Fraud Line?

As for elderly persons getting scammed, I don't think its them feeling guilty, but they are more trusting, gullible, especially if the person is being nice. The attention might be why they respond, as as you get older, the kids and other people tend to forget about you. and Hate to say it, but they might also be losing their mental facilities too.

Always remember that if your have to pay money for taxes, pay through your bank to the Canada Revenue Agency. If its Payment to the bank, go to the bank or online banking.

Never give money; if you have to put money up front first to get the money promised. (that's 100% scam all the time).

If its a nephew/niece you don't know well, call a family member (as it could be identity theft of that family member). Especially if it seems that the bus leaves in 15 minutes.

Also invest in a camera or two for the house, entrance way outside, and inside. Make it indiscreet, like the door bell camera thats new on the market.

Punishment for ripping off elderly persons: 1. 50 lashes with the cat of nine tails; 2. Run the gauntlet of 100 persons; 3. Anything else more vicious then the previous 2.

or my bank acct. would be seized.

At least I THINK that was the message, accent was pretty strong.

obviously pushed delete button.

Actually on the CRA scam police said that it wasnt the elderly who were the main victims. It was millenials.
