1. What to do with people (mostly guys) not wiping off the equipment after using it?
Seems to be happening more and more, esp among younger guys showboating around the gym floor.

2. Is it common for some guys to keep two, three even four equipment occupied at the same time? These guys at our gym work a set on one, leave their stuff there, go to another equipment, do a set there and come back to the first one. To make it worse, they stop at another place to chit chat with another guy.
This one doesn't seem to happen as often, but there are a few guys who seem to do both!!!

Sometimes I feel like asking them to do it politely but they are younger, bigger and much more fit than me. It irks me but I just wipe the equipment before and after the use. I guess it is just not worth it, I tell myself.

I politely ask to get in a set while they're on the other one. Most guys are ok with it.
Worst they can do is say no, which just reinforces ur opinion that they're arseholes.

Definitely let them know they are affecting others workouts. Most gym rats even the egomaniacs get it. And you can get a set maybe two in with that gear.

But if not, go over to the manager of the place. Have a chat. Tell them what the fuckwads are doing and let them know how pissed this makes you and everyone else there trying to get a workout in. Keep on doing that until some results happen.

I'm the old fit fucker a true Mean-ior if need be so in all cases I get results. Always polite, always firm but no nonsense. Did have one asshole, brought in the ring light, tripod the whole schmear who told me that he had his right to be there, so I made an effort to get in his stupid videos. Never went further and he toned it down taking his circus to a corner. Anyway, some of the gym assholes are the worst.

1. There are a few reasons for this. Firstly, many of us simply don't mind, we’re aware that we'll get sweaty and come in contact with others' germs anyway. Plus, we plan to shower right after, so it doesn’t really matter. It can also be frustrating when you try to use a bench or piece of equipment that someone has just cleaned with a wet wipe, as it can become slippery even after being dried with a towel. This can pose a safety risk, especially when lifting heavy weights. Finally, we all know that the more meticulous (or angry) gym-goers will wipe down the equipment before using it if they feel it's necessary, so what's the point of wiping it down twice in a row?

2. Yes, this behavior is both rude and annoying, reflecting poor gym etiquette. Interestingly, at my gym, it tends to be the older guys or those who are clearly beginners who do this more often, rather than the seasoned veterans or experienced lifters.

Do you go to a gym that's just for men? Because I see women at my gym engaging in this behavior just as often, if not more so, likely because they're less likely to be called out for it compared to men.

Simply ask the guys if you can work in or use the equipment when they aren't using it. Most people, especially the more fit individuals at the gym, are really friendly.

You might want to consider joining a higher-end gym, I've found they tend to be cleaner and have fewer unpleasant people.

I have always been with Club16, so I am not sure what range does it fall in as far as rating is concerned. I was told that it is pretty high end but again, I have no other place to compare it to.

I started my home gym a few years ago and I'll never go back. I don't miss the bad gym etiquette. I found Club16 as the bottom for the types of people you'll encounter. High end could be something like Gold's gym.

I guess it also depends on where club16 is, I've only been to the surrey locations.

Just answered your own question. LOL. Don't feel bad. It's worse in prison gyms.

This is one way to deal with it.

The problem is that people don't want to work out in someone's sweat. That is the reason to wipe the equipment down. My problem is how they wipe it down. All of these jerks need some cleaning lessons.

Eg its not just a single wipe (believe me these jerks don't even want to touch their own sweat, its fucken hilarious watching them do one wipe and running away). Spray the equipment down with cleaner/anti-septic and give it 4-7 wipes until its completely dry.

As for doing alternating sets with some one else, use a towel on benches or gloves. Never let anyone use your towel.

With Covid some people became better cleaners, but lets face it, they are lazy... They will go back to the same old habits.

If people want to buddy use equipment, cause its in their routine, they should find a slower time of day to work out. IMHO

The best way is to say "if you want to jump in pls clean the machine after you use it, so I don't have to worry about your germs". The assholes just leaves; and the good guys do clean the machine. It is etiquette. Clean after use. The thing is now you have to clean after your use for this other guy. So think about that.

The other thing these jump around guys are doing is psychological domination of you at the gym. They never jump in with someone that is bigger, bulkier then they are...

When weightlifting and someone does 2-4 exercises at a time (jumping on 2-4 machines). If they are working only 1 major muscle group they have to rest between sets.. They should just work on 1 machine at a time. If its 2 major muscle group then jumping machines should be fine (legs/back; chest/arms; core/legs etc)

People do these jumping machines to save time. Only 30 or 45 min for workout. So they go for max burn/min rest/next exercise/min rest/etc....

Club16 is an average gym. In a place like Vancouver, higher-end gym options would be places like Altea, Equinox, or House Concepts, which offer memberships starting at $250 or more per month. Gyms like Gold's are in the tier just below those.

If you believe it's worth it, I recommend a higher-end gym. They typically have staff members consistently cleaning, a different clientele, and a bonus is they usually have more attractive members, haha.

No, I think, I would stay with this average gym so I can save funds for pooning. As per issues I raised, I think I would rather try to work around them.

This is why I lift weights at home where I can listen to my vinyl while I workout throughout the day. Even picked up a recumbent evercise bike for free on fb marketplace. Mind you,I live on an acre so I have space to store all my junk

I hear you, but working out at home has never worked for me. I have a treadmill and few other things that are rotting away somewhere in the garage/basement. Also, there is only a limited number of equipment one can have. Ever since I have joined gym, I have been exercising fairly regularly.

I understand, some folks need motivation, being around other like minded people etc.

Yea other like minded people, especially some of the female gym members. If a nice looking woman in great shape isn't one of the inspirations for a man to exercise, I am not sure what else is.

I just read your post: "Sometimes I feel like asking them to do it politely but they are younger, bigger and much more fit than me…….MAN the F UP Brother. so what if they are bigger, younger blah blah…Your not asking them to do something they don't already know. They know exactly what they are doing and will continue to do it until somebody with a little bass in their voice, confidence in their gut and conviction in their eye tells these young little boys what “time it is"

You don't have to be polite or abusive. You have to Man the F UP be direct with them and communicate with complete clarity. My reply to you isn't meant to be hurtful or demeaning but rather a bit of a GodSmack.

Ok, Thanks! The thread is more about people acting irresponsibly at the gym. It was not meant to be about if I need to confront them or not. Well, that was not my intent anyways. But your point is very well taken. :) :)
