Coal-Fired Power Plant Enforcement Initiative
The coal-fired power plant industry is an EPA national enforcement priority. Since 1999, EPA has pursued a coordinated, integrated compliance and enforcement strategy to address Clean Air Act (CAA) New Source Review compliance issues at the nation's coal-fired power plants. Many of these cases have resulted in settlements or are being argued in court.

This morning I was sitting at my desk and reviewing an environmental report when my friend came in and reminded me about a the trip we took 5 years ago to the US to get emission readings from some coal fired electrical plants that we turned over to the EPA and all those court apperances we made to press for shut downs. Well guess what? After all the the hard work. WE SHUT THOSE FUCKERS DOWN!!!!!!
He was just told that 3 of the plants we took readings are shutting down. And its about time too. I remember one of the plants located in a small town i think in Illinos had a cancer rate 3 times the national average. When we first approach the town we actually saw the murky grey haze that was caused by emmisions from the plant. It was absolutely disqusting. I was giving up hope too because last time I attended the Court down there. The major of the town was trying to minipulate the judge by arguing how shutting down the plant would hurt the economy and cost them jobs and that town would end up with high unemployment rates. I think the judge was buying that crap. But in the end common sence prevaled and the we now have a win for Mother Earth!!!!!!
But this is just the begining. Did you know that about 40% of eletricty production in the US is from coal fired plants and many of them regularly exceed EPA emmision standards. These plants are scattered across the numerous states in populated areas. The cancer rates especially lung cancer and cases of juvinal cancer around such plants are much higher than the national average. On top of all that the size and health of plants and animals around such areas poor. We have got a long way to go but eventually we will shut them all down.
