I have surgery tomorrow (lipo) and I am SO NERVOUS--excited too--but mostly nervous. I've never been under general and it'll be my most major surgery ever. Share your positive surgery stories?

Been under general four times. Never had a problem. You just have to take it easy in recovery. If you are feeling disoriented, relax and stay in the recovery bed. Watch out for the nurses as they are the ones always trying to clear you out as they can be impatient to get home.

It was just like sleeping.

Take care.

You will do fine - just be positive about the whole experience. it will be over in no time. I have had few surgeries and they all went well. So dont be nervous and they know what they are doing...

Waking up after surgery and actually getting on your feet can be a little uncomfortable, so take your time.

I think the last time I woke up and went back to sleep so many times because I was too warm and comfy, but they eventually noticed and told me to stop. Maybe I was just being lazy

Blew out a hip years ago and had the total hip replacement thing. I was impressed that the surgeon and everyone on the team introduced themselves to me then signed my left leg!! No shit, as in autographed it as I was going into the OR. Went under with no sweat but as I was coming out of the general, I had a blood pressure drop, rare I was told, not unusual but not typical, which caused some excitement.
But Ms. Beckett, why are you doing the lipo thing? You sure look good to me and I am sure the discerning gentlemen here will agree!!

It will go by SO FAST that when they tell you they're done, you seriously think they're joking. I had a 40min surgery, and it literally felt like 5mins. And when they got me gassed, they told me to count to 10, I only made it to 7 LOL! and I was out cold. 15 years later, no issues from that surgery (y)
Have fun ;)

I've been under a few times. It's not at all an issue, the wake up is usually a bit inconvenient and puts you out of commission sometimes for possibly a half day, depending.

I like to have a little fun when I go under. Takes my mind off of worrying. Like counting up instead of down (throw in a .5 or two before I fade away). Tell them I a had an out of body experience, and I could see them all naked from above while they were working on me; compliment him/her on keeping in shape. Forget my name a few times, or throw in Fudd, Elmer Fudd (saying it like James Bond). Short sheet the bed next to me when the nurses aren’t looking. Rave on and on about how good the crappy food is. Pull an empty mickey of tequilla out of my bag and leave it on its side beside the bed with the cap off. Tape pictures of cute puppies and kittens all over the wall.

They fuking love me. Especially when I get discharged. Lol.

I told the nurse “Don’t do anything! I’m still awake!”
She says ok we’re all done.

Another time, I woke up in recovery and tried to get out of bed. A nurse grabbed me just as I was about to fall. She says “Just relax for a bit more” I go back to sleep.
Then all of a sudden I am at the desk and my buddy is there to drive me home.
No recollection of getting dressed or anything in between...really weird.

They do their job everyday....sometimes more than once.
There is an entire highly trained team there looking after your well being when your under, and another team on call.
You will wake up and say to yourself.....“ Seriously, did they put me under and cancel the surgery?”

For the record, I’ve always admired your physical proportions.....and you say your doing it because you want too, then go for it .

Among the Hill People
When I tore my Achilles years ago the anesthesiologist listened to my lungs and refused to give me gas (pack a day, plus chronic weed use). Valium and a spinal. I kept trying to roll over and see what they were doing, and they had to stop while I hacked up a lung halfway through. Surgeon was pissed at me. Don't smoke, people.

Charlee. You'll be fine! Trust me. As you know, or remember, I had a recent hernia surgery and I was nervous like you wouldn't believe. I had sleepless nights!! That was my first major surgery and you know what? It was a success!! It's been a couple of months now and I'm pretty much back to normal. Still feel a bit of twitching here & there, which apparently is part of the longer term healing.
Today's surgeons and procedures aren't like the old days.Worry is natural and I worried for nothing T.B.H. Again, you'll be fine :).

Let me( us) know how it goes. :) I'm out of here for the day.

I've had numerous major surgeries, and share many of the stories above.

The minor detail I can add is this. I have a very scientific brain. Every time they anesthetize me I try to observe the process of going under, and every time I laugh about it later. For some it may be a slow, gradual process (it may be for me, too, but that's not my memory after the fact). For me I start counting down and then it's as if someone turns out the lights. "Count down from 100": 100..99..98..(I'm still wide awake and alert)... and then I never make it to 97 (or whatever number I'm down to). I'm wide awake and then suddenly I'm waking up and it's all done.

I, too, have had the experience of waking and going back to sleep numerous times afterward. However, it's more than just that. Apparently I'll ask a question, get an answer, go back to sleep, wake up and ask the same question, go back to sleep, etc. Hours later (sometimes the next day) I'll ask the question and whoever was answering says "you've asked that like a million times already" and I have no memory of it.

Anyway, from my experience it's definitely nothing to fear. For me the worst part of surgery is the needle. Of course the healing process can be worse/more painful, but the surgery itself holds no fear for me. :)

Good luck! :)
